Big question here is, what CPU do you and your friend have?
We do have issues during gametime such as desync and crashes. But not able to join at the first place is a rare sight
He can barely run the game as it is on that CPU if it's only clocking in at 2.5Ghz and not going to the full boost. If it's a laptop, that's even more problematic as it's not drawing as much power and it generates more heat so it undergoes more downclocking than a desktop CPU.
You'd make a better host, but your CPU might also struggle running the game late game if it downclocks too much under all core usage (which the older Ryzen CPUs tend to do compared to the 5000 and 7000 series CPUs).
