There's a number of releasable nations. Some can be released at start of game and some have other requirements.
I’m sure there is some way to salvage Irelands economy even if it is horrible to start. Probably need to join a customs union or become a protectorate for easy access to most goods early, or rush free trade and spam ports.
Actually that is probably one of their biggest issues if you release them, lack of convoys.

I'll try that. I literally got rid of my military including the navy, I put taxes to max. consolidated the political parties and I couldn't get anywhere near out of the red. maybe I should learn with a different country, ey?
Build a resource or farm that reinforces that industry you built, and piggy back for about 15-25 years off GB's market until you balance. Also make sure you don't just use only the market goods from GB, make sure you produce them too (or that when you leave their market you can import the goods with a high enough cargo port to provide enough convoys).
