Question about Prestige (threshhold)
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2892824427&fileuploadsuccess=1

So I need to have 1060 prestige to rank up to Great Power.
Bavaria however has 979 prestige.

I've noticed the scale to how much prestige you need adjusts as the game plays out. But what are these factors that impact how high or low the prestige threshhold is for when switching rank tier?

Wik article on rank [vic3.paradoxwikis.com] has it as vs the global average.

The line that is used is the following:
"Prestige is the accumulation of all factors that makes a country more or less glorious. It is what determines who gets to occupy what rank in the global pecking order. In order to become a certain rank, a country must meet the prestige threshold for that rank, which is based on both how it compares to the global average and percentile-wise compared to the most prestigious country. "

Which does mean that for example, the number of great powers and major powers is not fixed.

Also sometimes countries can be a lower rank due to being a subject, lesser partner in a customer union or unrecognized.
It also gives the formula for example for the different ranks.

With a GP being the following:
5× global average OR within 75% of highest prestige
Just eye balling, I would say you need 6% more prestige than the lowest nation of the next rank.
I like how dynamic the rankings are.
Yea I was prestige grinding my army up just to get a higher rank earlier in my game and I was like "alright I just need 320" and I get 315 and look and now I needed 370 something. I hadn't been able to figure out what was controlling that dynamic factor.

Thanks, I'll peak around Bavaria and see what might make their threshold lower.

Maybe it calculates your eventual increase raise in prestige into the calculation.
I can't see anything visually in any tooltips or UI for either our country that would make a substantial difference.
They're a kingdom and as such get the +15 prestige bonus where I'm a principality with +5. Maybe it's cause I'm not autocratic anymore is for the jump in the threshold.
Other factors would be power projection where Bavaria is under 2000 points ahead and only 18/19m ahead in GDP. Of which they lack the manpower to actually expand theirs at a competitive rate like me.
You can get a detailed breakout if you mouse into the prestige number via nested tooltips.

Example of my US game, where I can nest in to see all the breakouts as to what gives me that number. Including tech/leader modifiers. Though some can be temporary modifiers that go away with time.

It also being possible to nest into the leading goods producer bonus, which can vary by product. So for example being first in fine art is +60, being first in aircraft is +40.
Apparently I am second in grain, so that is something I want to fix because the factory must grow. Which will likely be in Egypt to give jobs to all the radicals I created after I annexed it for my dedicated Opium and Silk needs.

The breakdown doesn't explain or give any details to why the prestige threshold is different. But it's nice to know this is the fastest way to check if you're a top producer of a good.
It could be that they dropped below the threshold, but have not yet been impacted by it. Since rank downgrade is not instant. Forget if it is 6 or 12 months from dropping below the cut off before you are officially considered deranked.

So Bavaria could have had a short term prestige modifier via events or leaders that bumped them up high enough to be a great power, which is now gone. Or the average prestige globally has increased to that point that they do not fall into the range for a GP based on that formula I mentioned from the wiki earlier.
Or though unlikely, they had a subject that contributed to their prestige that broke free.

No Bavaria has their own threshold value to beat. They've remained below the threshold I need to make, but they have a threshold of 1035. They're steadily increasing and staying above that threshold. They're at 1217 now.
