Is this realistic?
I started in Seira Leone and saw that I am a presidential republic which is an autocracy. Is that realistic at all, because that's actually the opposite of the other

This isn't a historical game no matter how much people want to believe it is, it's a Victoria era economic simulator. It doesn't follow history as we know it in real life.

So, yes, it is, because your game made it happen.
Real life, no. Because real life didn't make it happen.

Confusing the two, is nearly impossible.

Yes, I know it's not historically accurate

It means that you are a Presidential Dictatorship. Go to the Politics Overview tab, it says your government type in the top left.

To have elections, you would have to switch off of autocracy.

It is perfectly realistic, because many dictators are called president or something similar.

Except it's not an economic simulation at all.

Is a presidential dictatorship even possible? Presidents are elected--that's a republic. Dictators take control as supreme rulers with absolute control.

The closest thing to a presidentail dictatator I can think of would be the Trump presidency. But this is not normal.

I'd say it's pretty realistic.

Hitler got elected as well.

Also, North Korea officially calls itself democratic peoples republic, and i'd say it aint very democratic at all. It's not even a republic by definition.

There are plenty of euphemisms like that.

Like the German democratic republic.

Or the holy roman empire, which was neithe of the things it claimed to be :D

It is perfectly possible for a President to be elected (completely legitimately or not), then de-facto consolidate all the branches of government and power in his own office, making him effectively an autocrat.

I feel like a game thats alt history like this should atleast start with how the world began in that time period and then start veering off from there

Originally the title of dictator was used to describe an (elected) person who was granted extraordinary (but not absolute) authority during a limited time period to solve a national crisis.

There's pretty much quite a variety what a dictatorship can be - and it's not limited to an totalitarian dictatorship à la north korea.

E.g. the term constitutional dictatorship is used for the US government during the civil war or the great depression and second world war, because both Lincoln and Roosevelt got (limited) additional powers during these time periods (e.g. interment camps or detention of dissenters)

Theres really no real need to go into the full historical extent cuz presidental dictatorship has been a form of government in most paradox games its just when the ingame nation is a republic but it elects a character with no term limit other than death it happens in EU IV and Stellaris too if the Tag's government type allows it.

The OP specifically asked if it's realistic or possible. And that's what my post was about: It is realistic and possible and did already happen in history.
