apparently achievs can be earned with mods?
I understand that there were ways to cheat EU4 steam achievements, but the vast majority of players didn't do that, so they always stayed pretty relevant.

But in vicky 3 achievements apparently don't require checksums so you can load the game with whatever mods you want and still earn them, even in non-ironman games...

As someone who started almost every single EU4 game with an achievement goal and considered it one of the main motivation to play the game, I find this change to be VERY bad. It's kind of killing the hype for me ngl.

How does this affect you?
Odium Oct 24, 2022 @ 11:28pm
Yeah I feel the same. I guess they are dumbing it down for whatever reason. The are supposed to be hard. I have had days of a saved game fail cause of something random cause you had to run iron man.

I get that others will say well you can do whatever you want and still use iron man and that is true but just kinda cheapens it.

Well why though you can still earn achievements in ironman if you so desire. Why what other ppl do with their game affect you? Or you are kind of person that flout their achievements and play time everytime you post on forums?

Yeah dude, why do sports have rules? What does it matter if a doped up guy shows up to your competition and beats everyone. Surely you can feel good about your performance regardless.

lol, no offence, but that "it doesn't matter to you" argument is so asinine.
That comparison sucks so much as to make it worthless.

Chevos are actually pointless, and are not cheating anyone else. There is no other team, no actual match, nothing.

Its a little checkbox on steam, nothing more.

How does you playing single player game compare to sports which involves multiple people and in a competitive settings? By your logic no game should allow mods

It's comparable because both activities involve honing your skills to earn an award. If someone can cheat to earn an award that you spent hundreds of hours training for, the award becomes pointless.

I don't care if you want to mod the game to be emperor of the world day one. I just don't think it should allow you to unlock every achievements automatically on day two.
its not comparable at all, but keep stretching xp
dcbobo Oct 25, 2022 @ 12:32am
If the vast majority didn't cheat the system and it stayed relevant, why would you not continue to feel that way about the new system? f you consider modding as cheating the system, shouldn't the majority of others also feel this way?

It's called achievements not awards. I got it you just want to say "I am better than you to others"

Ok so achievements are a way to track your "achievements" if people mod its opens it up for cheating mods. Now if a world conquest achievement is owned by 20% of people cause of the cheats does it still feel as good as if it was only owned by .5% cause of no cheats. No the fact others have it dull down your achievement. Yes its about boosting ur ego but i consider the best comparison is, If someone uses steroids how does that affect you, well in reality it doesnt but if u dont do steroids and u work out 2 times a day and this guy hasnt put in the same amount of work but hes considered equal to you it takes away from how hard u worked

Who really cares? I treat achievements as a type of challenge to accomplish something in a sandbox game with an extraordinary number of possibilities. It lends me a goal and if I scum it somehow, the only person I've cheated is myself.

Besides, it's often funny to see that soemtimes the most basic achievements for a game, like say , "GOOD JOB! - Start your first game." have only a 60% achievement rate.
Red Dragon Oct 25, 2022 @ 1:14am
There is a simple tool that unlocks any achievement you want, I had to use it once to remove a ton of achievements that a game gave me by accident. It's just a list for whatever game you have with checkmarks and boom, you get or un-get whatever you want. Any kid can do it in 5 minutes by googling. Since I learned how ridiculously easy it is to grab achievements my enthusiasm for them has nosedived. If you go for a really hard achievement you basically have to stream or record it for bragging rights.

I legit got all except for 2 of the CK3 base game achievements. I learned a lot by just seeing the achievements as challenges but there are so many amazing CK3 mods that I couldn't play because I was always hunting for the next achievement. I really really like that pdx removed the checksum nonsense and now we are free to enjoy the game with good mods while at the same time being able to hunt down the "challenges" that the game gives us. Good choice pdx!

I mean achievements are only relevant to yourself, nobody else cares about what you have achieved in life so in the end what does it matter.
