If you play as America and take over India then you can be the United States of India

Technically, you'd just be the Asian arm of the United States of America.

India is a nation at the start of the game, if I'm not mistaken, existing as British India. I don't know that the whole of modern India is part of those borders, but I believe the great majority is, so presumably the best option would be to play as British India and try to achieve independence from Britain.

Of course I could be a completely wrong about this, too. Victorian history isn't my forte.

It looks like the Sikh Empire starts independent from Britain, so they'd probably be a good first choice.

It also looks as though you can play dependent Indian kingdoms under the rule of Britain (perhaps with the ability to breakaway yourself once you've eaten other dependents). And finally it looks like you can play as the East India Company and maybe wrangle independence from Britain once you're full formed. But you also are playing against the largest empire on Earth at the time, so good luck!

Could also play Pakistan.

Lose all your American holdings to the confederates. Remember: war is just an extension of diplomacy, so you should use it to do very odd diplomacy,

If I remember history class correctly, wasn't modern India created when Ghandi was alive and they split off from Pakistan?

Gandhi in history do leaded the independent of British India, and I'm wondering whether could we achieve it with initiative way? like Prussia founded Deutschland.

East India should be a option ,like peacefully changed to India by dealing with a series of event. And I also expect to see some other way. XD

India was frequently unified as a subcontinent but not really as the nation you know today. Britain basically sculpted modern india in 1947 by creating Pakistan, East Pakistan (Now Bangladesh), India, Ceylon and Burma out of the British Raj. Before that, India was like pre-North-Federation Germany, full of little kingdoms.

Basically India also united heavily in opposition to Britain and it's not realistic for India to be an organised country at any point in the 1800s as a result.
