This is the business model of Paradox. It's almost never worth it to buy their games on release.
There is a journal entry and event for the Scramble for Africa.
And why would there be an event for WWI? WWI only occurs in the case an Austria Archduke gets assassinated by Balkan separatists and only if the particular set of alliances (UK,France, Russia vs Germany, Austria) happens to occur. That isnt going to happen organically and do you really want to be that railroaded 80 years into the game?
Victoria II had a great war system, is this not a direct sequel? Everything you did in the game culminated in one or multiple world wars. It's what made the game worth it in the end.
Victoria II had a good diplomatic system.
Diplomatic Plays in Vic 3 fill the same space as flashpoints did. Do they work as well? Maybe. But the system is there, even if it needs tuning.
I think trying to emulate these flashpoints is hurting Vic3. For example, i declared war on Portugal as Spain to puppet them, and for some reason, Russia thought it would be nice to travel across the continent to help the Portuguese.
That would likely be the ~90+ infamy from puppeting industrialized nations biting you in the ass. Trying to grab 'big' nations whole attracts attention. And rightfully so.
I have not bought a Paradox game on release since EU4 and never will again. I wait at least a year, sometimes two in the case of Crusader Kings 3.
And if you someone makes the Panama Canal, this new is shown as a discovery new.
The same goes with wars, I completely ignore or don't see the small window bellow.
Hopefully the game ends up having this at some point. Journalist was a really important thing at that time.
