Seriously, wtf do I do
I'm a long time player of paradox games, and a long time player of these grand strategy games. I loved CK3, I loved EU4, all of them great. I have no clue what to do here. The Cape Colony tutorial literally teaches you nothing. I know nothing about trade routes, or how to become profitable given that the UK taxes the hell out of me every time I do. I don't know how to wage war, I don't know how to develop supply lines, nothing. Is anyone in the same boat?

watch some youtubers, either quil18 or FeedbackIRL, the first one for a sorta chill playthrough of canada, the second one for industralisation/economy basics

Cape Colony seems to be a bit of a bad start based on other posts on the board. Jump into Sweden or Belgium instead and first work on meeting the demand of staple goods, the start to specialize and go warin'.

24 hours addicted. seen all the tutorials that paradox is pushing and played the ingame tutorials. Spoilers: Feels like I barely have the basics and everything is super fluid. Everything is connected in some way and you can start off with a ridiculous goal in mind. Wana become a super drug cartel? You can do that and get all of the world addicted. Or become the swiss bank funding all of europes wars while you sit back and watch the world burn.

Just keep playing and it will slowly come to you over time. I don't think it'll just magically click even for vet paradox players. Take your time and do what makes you happy while having fun.

Go here instead of watching random youtubers bash on the game. This does a better job at explaining things. Hope this helps!

Relax, all you have to do is wait for the game to be released, 2-3 years from now, in the best case scenario.

I played belgium for 10 minutes then I swapped to Japan and I'd say they're one of the best starting nations. You're completely isolated so there's no need to worry about trade you only focus on your domestic production

To be honest, I’m playing as Texas, I’m profitable and have a good GDP which is increasing and I am just about to become a Major Power…and I really don’t know what I am doing. So good luck!

I started as Upper Canada for my tutorial, and it's been good fun. You are pretty much left alone, able to focus on exploring eco and politics without being dragged into wars early. I got to unify a lot of territories. But now I'm in a position where I can't declare independence from Britain, and because I'm a puppet I can't start any diplomatic plays to get the rest of a territory I need to unify all of Canada. I guess I just need to grow much stronger before Bits agree to grant independence.
Overall one of Canadas is not a bad start for a beginner, if you don't mind leaving warfare for very late in the game.

Watch some videos if you can stay awake ... I love that the Paradox-paid Steam video streamers are trying really hard to make this game sound interesting.

Its just the worst idea for a game ever. its not actually really a game tbh. Because a game by its very nature is meant to be entertaining.

This is actually a dry spreadsheet heavy simulation of some sort rather than a game, but I am not sure what it's simulating.

History was never this boring in real life.

The Victorian era was actually massively exciting part of history where large strides in civilisation, development and technology were being made in all aspects of human society. This game doesn't seem to portray any of that excitement at all.

If you think being an accountant is a thrilling job you will love this game. Otherwise stay well away.

Victoria 2 managed to capture the feeling of the Victorian era quite well, although there was loads of waiting around in that game, watching numbers rising slowly. From what I hear this game is similar but with none of the excitement lol.
