Resource map ?
Does anyone have a resource map available ?
I found that in the market you can choose an option to view the world by the density of the *select* resource, ie, oil or coal etc but there doesn't appear to be any solid info on resource appearance date and so,
but in the oil map view I noticed that there is VERY little under "potential", very very few countries will have oil and this'll make that resource immensely sparse, especially if you don't own Texas.
It doesn't spawn in the middle east apparently, it doesn't spawn in central Asia either from what I saw. (roughly 1890, so maybe the potential map would update later on?)

Oil that doesn't come from whaling is a resource that has to be discovered. You can see states with hidden resources from the beginning of the game by looking for the trait for hidden resources in the general state view (the tab on the far left of the window that opens when you left click a state). There will not be an easy map view of what these hidden resources are until they are discovered, but I would imagine that any state with hidden resources in the middle east and central asia is oil, in brazil, the congo, or southeast asia is rubber, and most other places is gold. I think Indonesia is an exception in that it has oil and rubber, maybe some gold too.

I thought we were talking about the oil map modes, there are 3 like for all other resources, a potentials map, production map, and consumption map. The potentials map is the one that seems to be confusing people because it will only show whaling until other sources are discovered. If you're on the production map you will see even less because whaling is generally unprofitable early on due to the low demand for oil.

I should also note that in your original post you said oild doesn't spawn in the middle east, but there are a number of states there with hidden resources I'm pretty sure are oil. Basra, Qatar, Shiraz, and Mosul are a few. There is also some in the Caucasus region where Russia, Turkey, and Persia meet.

Yeah these are the map modes I was talking about, I'm really not sure if there is a good way of locating where you want to go unless you know the historical potentials.
I got to around 1916ish iirc as Italy and the potentials and production map still didn't change, there is no oil from what I've seen in the middle east except for one small one in Arabia close to the straight of Hormuz.
It was really sucking for me since I couldn't afford to really build anything that used oil since the only people exporting it was Germany and Britain, but Britain embargoed me most of the time.

I had crapload of oil discovered while playing Canada. I had like 35 pumps in Alberta and about as much in Ontario.

You need to know what regions it is produced in based on historical or current day knowledge and either take those yourself or make sure someone with good tech takes them. They can only be discovered by countries with pumpjacks. Dynamite tech also helps discover resources like Oil faster. There is a lot of oil in the Persian Gulf region and further north in the Caucasus, but it won't be discovered if these regions don't have technologically advanced owners.
