Lol it is quite funny how the King live up to 94 years old when the average life expectancy of Sweden at that time is like 40.
Yes, that.
But it is also easy to forget how life was before modern medicine, especially anti-biotics. One tiny cut could mean death.
In the Middle Ages, the average life span of those born in landholding families in Europe was somewhere in the ballpark of 31 years and the biggest danger was surviving childhood it's self due to diseases and various other factors like being killed due to living conditions. One of the biggest major cause of deaths was from infant mortality alone, something that was incredibly common all over the world.
It's very easy to take every progress we have right now for granted as back then stuff like medical practitioner board or food and drug safety enforcement bodies didn't even exist. During the early 19th century, anyone can literally just pay to get some certificate that says they are a doctor and open their own clinic to start treating patients with zero academic qualifications or medical experience.
I totally agree. I think up to the 19th century it was for example widely believed that a full meat diet and blood letting was good for your health.
And regarding European and Muslime nobles, one of the other horrifying things that they did was to intermarry with each other according to rank and status, even if it means that they are 1st degree cousins.
So they have stuff like blood disease and Habsburg Lippe running around.
Wait, blood letting isn't good for your health?!?
Well... It is commonly belived that it generally didn't work. But it was so commonly used because it did work. Back in the day the upper class had the best access to the health services, and the upper class... As said, they didnt always have the best diet. That often caused arterial hypertension, and with that chest pain, dizziness, fatigue, headaches etc. And so they called for a doctor, which decided to let some blood out. Because hypertension is caused by overpressure in the veins, having less blood the pressure fell and the simptoms dissapeared.
If I remember corectly blood letting was also decreesing the feaver. And while the hypertension was the most common health problem in the upper class, the fever was one of the most common death causes across all classes. And so said practice actually mostly worked :)
you also need to conquer some land from either denmark and/or finland. as you only have 8 scandanavia provinces at game start and need at least 11.
