How good is the tutorial?
I mean the Learn the Game mode. Obviously it's a complicated game and I am not really good at strategy games. I mean Civ or Humankind, easy games I do OK, but have never really got into more difficult games like this. How possible is it to learn to play the game fairly quickly without any real experience at games like this?

fairly quickly is gonna be your issue. It's all gonna depend on you. The game itself isn't going to do a lot to speed up that learning process. In fact, you'll easily not remember everything. Your mastery will come from lots of play time.

It's not particularly good. It does hold your hand and guide you through the absolute basics. but it's a very detailed game with an enormous number of moving parts and so far, it's been next to useless. I'm just going with a play-it-and-learn-as-I-go approach.

There are a lot of helpful tooltips, but that's about it. I'm just diving in, and slowly figuring it out. Already screwed up like three playthroughs haha.

The tutorial is good, but there is a ton of reading compared to Civ and other 4x games.
((Side note for tooltips go to Settings > Game > Action Lock Tooltips (You press middle button to see what each highlighted term means instead of hovering over it until the tooltips pops up.. you'll understand when you start the tutorial))

Now, my first paradox game was Crusader Kings 3. It took me 10 hours to learn the basics after finishing the tutorial. I also watched many tutorial videos, specially One Proud Bavarian on YouTube. I would say that it will take me 40 hours to learn the basics of Victoria 3 (I already failed at the tutorial once)

Basically what I'm saying is that you need to learn how to learn the game before you learn the game. I think Crusader Kings 3 is a better introduction to Paradox Games. I have had Europa Universalis 4 in my library for 6 years and never learned how to play, but Crusader Kings 3 was a breeze in comparison.

Ok so basically are you ready to feel like you're doing homework and also invest 60 hours into reading and learning non-stop and not feeling satisfied because you don't know how to do what you want to do?

Alright so what I'm trying to say is that you should try out Crusader Kings 3 first, it's on sale on key reseller sites as well.

Very spartan. The game expects you to consort with resources outside of the game heavily. Still, if you want to go in blind like me, turn down the tooltip expand timer to .5 sec, read everything and explain it back to yourself so you make sure you understand before moving on.

I own Crusader Kings 3 on Xbox Gamepass for PC so good suggestion, I'm going to try that one right now. Only other Paradox game I have is HOI4 here on Steam and when I tried it I felt completely lost and overwhelmed.

This one just looks so good, I will probably buy it anyway and just try to figure it out and take my time to learn it. But I'll try CK3 just to get a feel for a Paradox game first.

Actually, a bit of patience is required. It takes some time for the tutrial to guide you through things like improving immigration attractition and satisfying your pops' needs. It's doing a better job than I intitially thought. we'll see how it works out.

I've had my first war and it was obviously ahead of the tutorial but I managed to figure it out by myself. My general needs to travel there? Okay? Goodbye to the Sioux nation - guilt sets in. The new war system is definitely different.

that is a great idea. It may not play close to the same. But it does get you into the habit of having to learning the systems, mechanics and UI of a paradox game. And that's the hurdle to overcome for any of them. Just remember, they are nothing alike. You'll have to learn this just like ck3, it just won't cost you anything to learn CK3.
compared to ck3s tuts this tuts is really bad.

I'm doing that one right now, it seems pretty good, guess I will see how intuitive it is once I start on my own.

just my experience. Victoria 2 - tutorial had concepts each with it's own scenario. Victoria 3 lets you choose 1 of 4 nations and then guides you through a campaign. At first it is somewhat intense with a do that then do this then get your GDP t o this. Then as you progress it says explore the game and we will guide you with something when you get there. I don't know about anyone else but though it was frustrating at first it was fr less so than when I tried to play a random nation. So I do think I will play all the tutorials and then try a game without it. That has been my experience so far.
