Istanbul Should be Called Konstantiniyye
Konstantiniyye wasn't renamed until the 1930s. It should be called that at least until the Ottomans change government form to a republic.

You're being silly.

What is being silly about knowing the history of the name Konstantiniyye/Constantinople?

https://greekreporter.com/2022/05/29/istanbul-constantinople-both-greek-cities/

Even modern-day Orthodox followers still call Istanbul Constantinople as part of a priest title (Archbishop of Constantinople New Rome and Ecumenical Patriarch, to be specific).

I agree with your suggestion and learned something new today, Exile.

It's a simple case of editing the relevant name files. You can mod this in about 5 minutes.

Why mod it in? The game should be historically accurate.
@Palaiologos, just educate yourself a little bit and google when Konstantiniye was renamed to Istanbul.
You are not, then. Just open the google and find the answer (Spoiler, the city was renamed to Istanbul by Ataturk in 1930)

>using a Greek site to say the city should be called the Greek name

I am quite familiar with the history, lol. Turkey wasn't going to have their capital with the same name as the king of the country they just fought a brutal war with. Like, come on now.

Emperor Constantine had been long dead by the time the Ottomans took over the city of Constantinople. He ruled from 306 AD to 337 AD. The city of Constantinople fell to the Ottomans in 1453 AD (more than a millennium had passed since then).

Also, Istanbul is a Turkish version of the ancient Medieval Greek phrase "Is tin 'polin," which means "into the city" people in that part of the world for a long used that phrase to indicate that they were going to the biggest city long before Ottomans took over Constantinople.

The Greek king during the Greek invasion of Turkey was called Konstantinos. I wasn't referring to Constantine XI.

This guy?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Constantine_I_of_Greece

That made no sense as the City Constantinople was named after Emperor Constantine of the antique world and not someone who lived long after the city was founded and named.

It's really ironic that you carry a name of the last byzantine dynasty, yet you act so ignorant of the facts that the official name of Istanbul was Constantinople until it was renamed after the fall of the Ottoman Empire.
Първоначално публикувано от Palaiologos:
I never said it wasn't. The city was renamed in the 1920s by the new Turkish government.
Then why do you keep arguing here? OP clearly states that the name "Constantiople" was used only up until a certain date.
Първоначално публикувано от Palaiologos:
It doesn't matter who it was originally named after, the guy your country fought a war against shared the name and called back to the same lineage of the guy the city was named after. It would be like if Kyiv was called 'Putin Town' named after Jimmy Putin in 1265. I am pretty sure they would still change it today.

My country? I don't live in Greece or Turkey, or even anywhere nearby.

You should check out my profile's Country. I live in a city with a generic name shared by millions of people.
The city was already called Istanbul (among other names such as Dersaadet) in the fifteenth century by Ottoman writers (Aşıkpaşazade being one of them) anyway. The change was about asking other countries (and their press for example) to use the name Istanbul rather than Constantinople. The question here as to whether a city (or a state) should be called according to its local usage (you can find a lot of Ottoman documents that called the city Istanbul or Dersaadet) or how it was called internationally which meant how the West called it in effect. In the end, it is a simple modding issue rather than a huge historical (in)accuracy. It's the (almost) same name anyway... koSTANtinoPOLi -- Istanbul

This guy claimed in another topic that the official language of the Ottoman Empire was Persian. He is probably a Persian living in Canada.
Many place names in the game are not historically correct, but what a coincidence, this guy is stuck with the name of Istanbul.:steamsalty:

Not a Persian. You know the Ottoman's used more than one language right? The educated of the empire liked to speak in Persian. Look it up.
