Istanbul Should be Called Konstantiniyye
Konstantiniyye wasn't renamed until the 1930s. It should be called that at least until the Ottomans change government form to a republic.

Indeed. But hey, I suppose we can mod that easily, by simple name change in the files
Like making opium to coce

@Palaiologos, just educate yourself a little bit and google when Konstantiniye was renamed to Istanbul.

I am quite familiar with the history, lol. Turkey wasn't going to have their capital with the same name as the king of the country they just fought a brutal war with. Like, come on now.

Constantinople was named after Constantine the great, not after its last emperor Constantine Palaiologos. Top tier troll. It's also true that the city's name wasn't changed until the ending of VIC3s timeline.

Cities should be represented by the official names given to them by the people that controlled them. The Ottoman state called it Konstantiniyye until 1930 if I'm not mistaken, perhaps an event could play if the player controls the Turks in 1930 to choose if he'd like to change the name to Istanbul.

I'm sure they'll update the game as time goes by as they always do.

True and Selonika should be called Selanik etc.

Also this should be same with city names in other countries as well. Some Hungarian city' should have German names in start etc.

The Ottomans and Turks themselves called it Konstantiniyye. I'm not arguing for it to be called Constantinople. The Turkish form of the name exists for a reason, that reason being, it is exactly what they called it.

I said Selanik must trated as same way , not something opposite. Also I am a Turk , I know İstanbul used to call Kostantiniye
This is the weirdest debate. It was not called Istanbul at the time, the Republic of Turkey wasn't even founded until 1923. All of Paradox's games show a fairly decent effort to get basic history correct, because it's strange to have anachronisms like that decades before Atatürk was born.

I can't think of a reason, unless you think calling it by the old name is disrespectful to Turkey. It's a place with a rich history of numerous empires one after another, they value that past even if they sought to chart a new future ( Khemalism is based but complex ).

So it would actually be kind of so-so if they didn't give their history the same care and attention as others. <3

I'm sure you've heard it, but look up Istanbul (Not Constantinople) covered by They Might Be Giants. It's an old song written for the 500th anniversary of the fall of Constantinople to the Ottomans.

Arşivlerde çalıştığın belli, osmanlılı tarihçiler gibi boş yapıyon.

Oyunun Grand versiyonu al 1-2 haftaya zam gelir 21 dolar şuanda normalde 80 dolar.

" Remember only about 2% of the population were even able to read for most of Ottoman history. "

This is pretty low. May I ask why?
Less than 5 percent of Chinese people can read up until rapid industrialisation for example. Majority that COULD read were males as well. Just a weird thing about history. Most people from most countries wouldn't have been able to read up until the country began to industrialise and can afford to have their people learn, and in some cases NEED their people to be able to read instructions
please bring back constantinople to Greece
ITS ISTANBUL YOU FAT FU- *implodes cause why not*

I don't know about China but in Morocco back then, children go to mosque to learn grammar, mathematics and stuff like that even in rural areas (except in really remote areas).

I have dozens of old manuscripts from my family (they were in rural area), the oldest ones being from the 17th century (talking about land delimiting, land transaction, dowry, inheritance)

The ability to read was a must in their everyday life.

I would like to know if It was not the case in ottoman mosques.

PS : Just found out that yes. They call it mektep while we call it mssid

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kuttab

So this 2% of litteracy is a little bit strange.

I agree with the message of the OP and this is not the only anomaly of the map, we can see in the last trailer that the map of West Africa is crazy with the borders of the post-colonial states, or the hinterland of Algiers named "Algeria" when the term was invented by France after the conquest.

Hopefully the mods will correct this but it doesn't look very serious for Paradox which prides itself on a certain historical rigor.
