Welcome back,
As u noted, the game has not since any new fixes to very old bugs in both single and multiplayer versions for the past year +.
In Single player u are able to copy and back up manually your character profile, this should help in case u get a hard crash and the files are no longer sync, but its a pain to back them up since u never know when it might crash. Ideally have the game run on lower setting or with a higher end Video card do fix this issue since most of the crashes are related to game asset load capacity. Further in single player make sure you have adjusted the decay setting for buildings otherwise you will find what u built vanished when u log back in a few days later .
As for Multiplayer in a LAN you do need 1 extra account/game for hosting the server, while you and your friend can join that server to my knowledge. Maybe another person can confirm this. since i haven't done this part in a long time.
Have fun and take care.
As for playing with a friend
Thank you for your response. Were you finished? I did not see anything after you said, "As for playing with a friend."
And decay rate is an issue for single player, even when a server is not running after you quit game? That seems strange.
In the case of crashing, I considered it was a resource issue, but this is a new PC and it runs many times smoother than my old one. I had hoped it was not because of that.
In the case of running a dedicated server, I was running server from the same PC and account, and I was able to log on after ending Steam in Task Manager. I will now attempt to run server from my old PC, play from the new one, but same Steam account in both cases.
Also were you running the dedicated server tool that you can download from steam directly?
Also I prefer using this its better IMO https://servermanagers.freeforums.net/thread/2/downloads
Oh! No, I was not. I started it on my PC, and then the game closed, and the server launched in DOS. I could not relaunch the game to play it until I Ended Task on Steam. That does not crash a game, only Steams management of it, such as the in-game overlay.
It is the Dark and Light server manager..
The ark server manager is still being worked on.
When i used my Virus prot would block it.. I never had virus trouble with the DLSM.. it still works. Not as a way to run a server thou. We had some issues with the servers while using, why I dont use to run servers
