Launch Options
Dev's, If you get a chance to read this. Please Pin and lock this to the top of Discussions so we can stop seeing consistent reports of "Low FPS BS".

Right Click the game in Library, Go to Properties, Bottom of 1st page it will say "Set Launch Options". COPY PAST this into it so the game runs 10x smoother atm. The game seems locked around 30 FPS with this, but better then getting 3-15 in random spurts. Low memory makes the game not eat up 8GBs of your RAM, Useallcores makes it actually use 4-8 cores instead of just 2, vsync always causes issues in game so it runs quicker without. Other 2 not 100% what they do, but helped stabilize it at 30 FPS for me.

-lowmemory -USEALLAVAILABLECORES -novsync -high -sm4

EDIT: Added brief description labeled to each launch option.

-lowmemory = Uses lower amounts of ram.
-USEALLAVAILABLECORES = uses all CPU cores rather then game limit. (2 atm)
-novsync = removes vsync, never saw a point since causes more issues then helps 50% time.
-high = setting game to high priority while running
-sm4 = Shadow Model 4 instead of 5, sky = stars and no random foilage.

Is there a tutorial yet ?
I played around a bit, lvl 4 so far- no clue how i managed that - but i know nothing. Not where to story my always overloaded inventory, not how to fight, i keep getting killed by stuff lvl 26 - 74 at a bridge near the spawn place.
I have a staff but it seems i only can harvest with it, nothing else.
Is there a tutorial wich tells me how things are working, how i can move inventory stuff into storage chests and how to fight and such. I find that much things i have no clue to understand, housing is completely overwhelming me, it looks like wallstreet broker store but what does it have to do with me ? i cannot enter the house nor can i do anything with it after opening it.

this game is so confusing and no clues around, please show me a good tutorial for it.

Hello Fellow Adventurer.

Welcome to Dark and Light.

So there no official in game or website tutorial Yet..
The good thing about it is that u will have to learn by experimenting and figure things out, quickly.
Do not let this challenge determine your gaming fate and enjoyment. This is a survival game, so u will die often but this is part of the learning. This is also a building game, so u will be able to build a structure for you to hide and store your items, resources, and pets. That’s right this is also a taming creature game. Creatures you tame can help u defend yourself and help you gather resources much faster.

So here is a simple advice / tutorial. Other players will surely also add more thoughts and advice.
Also note this is just a quick intro to some common features and challenges you will face early on.

Note there are a few great YouTube video which cover many of the game features I recommend you watch them so you get a solid grasp on all the games has to offer.
Good luck

Basics to survival at start are water, food. You can use your hand to gather resources, and this will lvl up many of ur basic survival skills. You will need to learn how to make basic weapons for combats and basic survival harvesting tools, and learn to make a campfire, and a structure to living in.

:steamhappy:
(WATER) You can drink water simply by jumping on water diving in, or when it rains ur water need fill up. Later on you will be able to make a water bottle which u can drink out of and refill.

:steamhappy:
(FOOD)You can eat berries from bushes and apples from hitting trees, you can also cook food in the campfire. (To eat food just go to inventory and double click on the food icon picture)

:steamhappy:
(FIGHT) You can fight low lvl creatures by punching them. But early on you will be able to make a few basic combat weapons use those cause they deal more dmg. You can also you that weapon or a harvest tool to gather resources off of the creatures you killed.

:steamhappy:
(DIE) If u die that’s ok (cause all your water/food/constitution are reset to full), u can go back to where u died and pick up all your stuff. Don’t venture too far from town, because that’s where you resurrect at. And bodies that have died will only last a short period of time about 10mins

:steamhappy:
(SKILL UP) You will need to gather enough resources to lvl up your skill so you can build a campfire, on ur inventory screen on the left it shows all the mats u gathered and on the right what u can make. if you can make something make it cause it also helps lvl up your skills. Do not worry about excess resource that are weight you down just go to your inventory and place mouse over them and press D (to drop item) at this stage of the game u can lose and drop all un needed items, once you have a little base than u can start to store them.

:steamhappy:
(TIPs) Better weapons/harvest items can be quickly equipped by placing them on the bottom Tab and you can use them by pressing the assigned hot key.

:steamhappy:
(BUILD)Once u can build a straw foundation, venture out of town and find a flat piece of land (This is not your permanent base but just a starter small cabin) Place your made foundation tiles like and make a fancy layout or just a 6x6 box area. Once the foundation piece are in follow by side placing the side walls at least 2 high and finally place the ceiling tiles and a door way.

:steamhappy:
(STOREAGE) Once you have a small cabin make lots of small chest to store your gathered items. Note that you will learn to make higher capacity storage chest so don’t worry if you make them and then replace them with better capacity one later on.

:steamhappy:
(HARVEST) You can harvest Shrubs, Grasses Trees, Rocks, Ores, and Death creatures, each gives you a resource, and these resources can also be further used with other Tools/Forge/Workbench/Grinding/Campfire tool to give you other useable resources.

:steamhappy:
(TAMMING) taming is a bit more complex, but the basics are u need to build a bow, and stone arrows, (note: stone arrows mat that you will need is “ash” which you get from burning wood on the campfire) and a feeding trough, find a sheep or boar ( low lvls tame faster require less arrows and need less feed ) equipped the bow on the Hot bar at bottom of screen and while in inventory view connect the arrows to the bow by picking up the arrows and placing them over the bow. Once u found a sheep aim at it and shoot. Each time you shoot the arrows string anchors to the ground, when the sheep breaks the arrow string it tires the sheep down once you do this a few time it will stop running and fall to the ground. Now you can place a feeding Trough near it and interact with the feeding trough by pressing E and search it than transfer berries/apples/grass from your inventory onto the feeding trough. After a few moments you should see the sheep taming bar increase has it eats the food you place in the trough. Once tame you need to interact with your new pet place mouse over it and Press E and Set the pet to follow you to ur base.

:steamhappy:
(LEARNING) I know it may be hard to understand some of the concepts of what I typed because It hard to explain what to exactly do using words, because it doesn’t cover each minor detail, which are important to new players. Once again I recommend going to YouTube and search Dark and Light, seeing other players will Help you grasp many concepts and features, invest 30mins watching and you will be an expert.

The DnL Gamepedia (Armor and Weapons sections) Has great information on Forging gear for those interested in this. Found at https://darkandlight.gamepedia.com/Dark_and_Light_Wiki

When Forging items the following information may help. (Thanks to KarmaComa)
Uncommon Items: 1 Fixed stat + 1 Random stat from the list on gamepedia.
Rare Items: 2 Fixed stats + 1 Random stat.
Epic: 2 Fixed + 2 Random Stats
Legendary: 2 Fixed + 2 Random Stats
You must forge the item once for EACH stat. (I.E. One craft per stat added up to max enchant limit) The quality of the item determines how poerful the enchant is. You can reforge the item as many times as you want, but stats will be replaced each time.
(TORPOR MAX seems WAY to dang common on gear)

BATTLEMAGE STAFF :
Fixed Stat #1 - Melee Damage % (Appears to increase magic damage on a staff.)
Fixed Stat #2 - Melee Damage %
Dynamic Stats - Mana Recovery 1-3 Stars, Malee Damage % 1-3 Stars, Focus Recovery 1-3 Stars.

DECAY TIMERS:
Straw - 3 days or 72 hours.
Wood - 4 days or 96 Hours.
Stone - 5 days or 120 Hours.
Iron - 7 days or 168 Hours.
Manor - 15 days or 360 Hours.
You must be in render distance of a structure for its timer to reset.

DARK ALTARS:
Activating these causes a invasion (lots of meteor drops). Three altars are located on the map, One in snow Biome to the left of the ice cave if facing the snow, One to the right of the Volcano if facing it, One on the floating Islands.

ICE CAVE:
Not recommended to enter this cave without atleast enough Brimstone Armor (Tailoring) to get you to 2500 Cold Resist (CR) if going in solo, as well as food to combat hunger caused by cold. In groups of 2+ with 2nd level healing staves and 2nd level healing runes Brimstone can be forgone in place of combat armor.

FIRE CAVE:
Not recommended to enter this cave without enough Icewind Armor to get you to 2500 Fire Resistance (FR) if going in solo, as well as water to combat thirst from heat. In groups of 2+ with 2nd level healing staves and 2nd level healing runes Icewind Armor can be forgone in place of combat armor.

(Most creatures inside of the caves can not be tamed.)

COOKING POT:
Make recipie button does not appear to work with any combination of items.

RANGER ARMOR:
Speed boost comes from forging, however, this is the best armor for hypothermal and hyperthermal insulation for GENERAL play. Add Icewind gloves/boots for hot areas and brimstone for cold areas.

BUILDERS FRIEND:
Iron Armor may be the worst set for combat, however, when forged it can give a massive weight boost. That coupled with it's graphic design, one does think that this was it's intended use for Roleplay and House Job type armor.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The following is information clarification.
Most creatures can be knocked out using a stone hook arrow and bow, or crossbow. Many creatures can be knocked out using a Goblin Stick. (Dragons and Mythicals are the exception so far.)
I recommend getting a Fire Imp and a Ice Imp as soon as possible. Taming elementals requires a Small Supression Stone for Imps and a Supression Stone for normal elementals.
In order to use the supression stones you must take the creature below 20% health or 1 bar of health left then use the stone on it like a weapon, then kill the creature once the soul is taken. After that you will revive the creature in a Summoning pool to tame it.
ICE IMP: Mobile Icebox. 10x Spoil Timer.
FIRE IMP: Mobile Forge: Require no fuel. Heats area around it.
Keep Magic Shards in the elementals inventory to feed it and prodice Elemental Cores.
Fallen and Reapers are not tameable dispite other information.
MYTHICAL Creatures come from evolving ELITE Creatures and may evolve into ANY level.
All MYTHICAL Creatures REQUIRE Mythical Feed and Iron Hook Arrows. The rate is 50 feed plus 1 per level of tame.
MYTHICAL FEED is created at the Altars using 3 Carnivore Feed, 3 Herbivore Feed, 1 Lucky Clover, and 1 Chaos Essence.
A good TAMING CHART can be found https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1O0fTD4DzirLhZWvJVTc1sW0xsH9FZyfBspLWUWQmWj4/edit#gid=965017120 Keep in mind the chart is only a guide and may be off by 1-3 feed with the exception of Mythical creatures.
ALBINO DEER: Use Delicate Herbivore Feed OR Apples. Do not use regular feed as they have the same effect as apples.
WINDRIDER (Fafnir): (Thanks to Psykonalle)
The following numbers are approximate, and they do depend on the constitution:
-Lvl 20 WR: 250 Iron hook arrows
-Lvl 50 WR: 350 Iron hook arrows
-Lvl 100 WR: 550 Iron hook arrows
-Lvl 120 WR: 650 Iron hook arrows
Always have 50-100 more than listed above.
MORE TO COME!
After playing several games I know have a quick start set up.
after following the instructions I start bashing all the barrels, and then harvesting. All gold I get I hoard towards buying a iron sword, axe, spear and hammer.
The spear and horse combination enables you to travel out further and kill creatures that would be too hard to kill while on foot.
So to use the axe, left or right click what ever gets you the most.
You can eat the berries for food and flowers for focus but you can also go to the cook and buy some items that look like wet leaves, these bring your focus up ral fast. I do this as a last resort only.
I also buy some cured meat , again from the cook and again to eat only when desperate.
I have a spot where I can put down a couple of chests, (sorry not telling, my secret lol but ask me in a pm and I might)
I store items there I don't want to lose.
SELLING
The blacksmith gives the best prices for wood and twine.
The farmer will buy some seeds in lots of 10 and give you 100 gold
The vendor across the bridge will buy your twine for a good price and some hides also.
The apothocary is mean but it's all extra gold right? :)
The hunter will also buy twine and some of your exces weapons, but never more than one at a time.
They all will buy and sell goods that improve with their levels and to imrove their levels donate some of your gold when you can
when you get to the first build quest I tent to make the walls, ceilings and bases and drop them. I find that a base built from those is almost worthless. (sorry Snail) :)
Wood is the first decent building material and has a beast gate so you can take in your horse and other tames and make life lot harder for the predators
Fighting. Please don't forget to use the right mouse button as it gives you a massive swing that can kill a bargash outright, depending on their level of course.
When cutting down trees outside the city listen for every sound, watch the sheep and bramble hoppers, if they are all going in the same direction look behind them for a enemy. I try to keep my back to a cliff or lake but not too close you need space to get away.
EXACT DONATION AMOUNTS REQURED TO LEVEL ESTEL VENDORS
The amounts below are the required amounts of total gold donations required to reach each level. For example, if one person donated 111 gold to Blacksmith Elidor El'idan, then he would be level 2 still. If someone else donated 1 more gold, he would level to 3 because 111+1=112.
Hi, I recently started playing the game again and it usually runs perfectly but for some reason it freezes and then I have to use the Task Manager to force-close it. Can you point me to where I can go to fix this?
