Hmm, this answer is only true occasionally. Some tame will not even eat the delicate feed. Some that do, only tame out like one level higher than if you used regular feed. Others will tame 30 times faster (the albino deer does) if you use the delicate feed instead of regular. So you need a chart like I listed in an earlier response. There is no one right answer here.
And starve taming is a good idea when using expensive and difficult (time consuming usually) to make feed and you are taming in a dangerous area. But if you are taming in a safe location, like inside your base walls (this is where I do most of my taming), it doesn't make any difference from taming by placing the trough and feed right away. If your tame gets killed by a panther or Earth Elemental before it finishes, you will be glad if you were starving it and didn't use any feed yet. Otherwise, doesn't matter.

Some only take the mystical feed, those are the elites. They look like regular creatures, but they have a glow (except not the elite goblins, which are not tamable).
The deer is going to tame much faster on delicate, but regular feed is an option:

I'm doing my best to answer your questions accurately, but you can always look this stuff up on the wiki. That is what I've done. If you can't find it there, then youtube will usually have a video on how to do a specific tame.

On the left it shows what it will eat under the heading: Taming.
The speadsheet is the incomplete, but ya, the wiki is too. This is EA (like that explains everything)
I don't see anything in the wiki about the dragons. I think they will take normal feed, and I tamed them that way awhile back. You would need to watch a video less than a month old or just try it for yourself to know for sure. As far as I know, they will take regular feed and don't require the delicate, but will eat the delicate.
I see it clear as day, but it does not show Carnivore Feed. xD
Oh, oops. Didn't read it closely. Looks like Fine Cooked meat works about as well as carnivore feed normally would. If you can tame a turkey and roast it, you would get enough fine cooked meat to tame one.
I've only ever made a few delicate carnivore feed. I don't think you can buy the uncommon field mushroom, so it is a lot of work to make that feed. I could be wrong about that though. I've only been using the vendors about a month. I wasted a lot of time playing DnL and thinking the vendors were too complicated to figure out, and they may be complicated, but they are necessary.
