[Feedback]Farming : Fertilizer consumption is still way too high
Hello DnL Team,

Disclaimer : I play on official PVE and all that follows is my opinion not the way it should be ;)..but i think a lot of people will agree.

After some testing on farming i think it is reasonable to say that the fertilizer consumption is still too high.

Seedling > Midling part :

It requires at least 600-700k nitro for this 2 stages alone. If you ask me it's a bit too high but it would be okay-ish if the fruitling state would not take so much nitro to maintain.

Fruitling part :

And that is where it's quite insane in my opinion...It burns roughly 210-240 nitro every 10s. 1 large fertilizer is 450k nitro so it lasts ~5-6h. If you want ALL plants and mushrooms (which everyone eventually will need) you need at least 6 crop plots so you have to farm 6 large fertilizers or 30 medium ones every 5-6h...

Edit: Another thing is that when you are at the fruitling stage the nitro burning will only stop once you have a stack of 50 plants (in large crop plot and seeds/elemental cores are included in this count). So at the moment be carefull to take that into account.

I noticed that not every plant has the same consumption rate and the same timer but it may be caused by server lag which is quite high atm. The only plant that is quite different is the cooking herb, it takes less nitro accross the board from seedling to fruitling and after nitro decreases really slowly.

So you see the problem, it's not Farming simulator 2017 ;D.

Possible solutions :

1.Reduce significantly all fertilizer cost
2.Increase significantly all fertilizer nitro amount
3.Edit: Reduce significantly the fruitling stage nitro consumption wether or not you reached the 50 plants in the crop. (imo this is the best compromise)
Edit: 4. As suggested by Holdem : make fertilizers used only to speed up growth (normal growth really slow)

If you have to be a 3-4 men crew to maintain a farm every day i don't think it's a good idea to design a game to force people to play in team, it's way easier to group up but it should not be mandatory, you should be able to play alone and do fine on this part. Farming is only 1 aspect of the game so it should not take so much time and effort.

Hope you read this :)

Keep up the good work !

That's actually also a good idea i added to my possible solutions

I was told large plots use about 100k per hour and that sounds about right. Thats about 5 large fert per plot to make them survive through sleep&work so making 10-15 per session to cover cooking herbs as well is way too time consuming.

I agree the cooking herbs use fert at an acceptable rate and all plants should be that speed.
Thats why you farm fert during a week or two time playing like i did fert is not a problem at all if your not in a rush and want everything easy. I have over hundred of them way more than enough to grow crops and more brewing always just add charcoal, grass and spoil meat, people just want it in a day or really fast which imo is destroying the whole concept of the game nerf this, less this, less that, GG.

+1

Make farming like in ARK and all be wonderful. Treant buff could have properties like greenhouse in ARK - reduced fertilizer consumption and faster growing.

It does have that ability.

It's too time consuming for what it is since farming is just 1 aspect of the game, your argument would be valid if farming was the whole point of DnL. It's my opinion though.

They were going to add 166%to the duration of fert. Had that happened yet?

They did and either it's not working or it is still not enough

Ability for faster growing, not for fertilizer consumption. Or I'm wrong?

+1 - still to high!

Meassured consumption on 4 large crop-plots with the standard ingredients needed for the kibbles. Calculated the maintaince -> it's just simply to much for a middlesized tribe if u want to be able to also do others stuff and enjoy the game.

The whole system needs an overhaul, the main bottleneck i've encountered is the rotten meat for sure.

The real downer is the actual production of the farms. I've maybe grown enough crops to make 5 herbivore feed in 3 days (i'll admitt I needed more cooking herb farms to make up for the high demand). Now this would be acceptable IF I didn't spend a ton of time in those three days working for such small gain. I would much rather wait the extra couple hours and less lvls for a tame.

@Tona:

I completely agree with you.

I calculated the nitrogen consumption a few days ago, however I don't remember if this was before or after the 1.66 increase.

At that time the consumption was as follows (please note, these are approximate values).

  • Large Crop Plot = 5 bags of Large Bag of Fertilizer per every 24 hours.
  • Medium Crop Plot = 9 bags of Medium Bag of Fertilizer per every 24 hours.
  • Small Crop Plot = 9 bags of Small Bag of Fertilizer per every 24 hours.

Also note that this is for ONE crop plot. Adjust accordingly based on your total crop plots.

The Take Away: Even a small garden requires an ASTRONOMICAL amount of work to maintain.

I will check after the patch to see if there have been any changes and post any recalculations.

I meassured the consumption this saturday and calculated for Large 6 bags for 24h!!!!

this, we spend too much time making fertilizer, unlike ark we dont make fertilizer here just out of poop and thatch, it's a lot more chore to make fertilizer in DnL than in ark, so i think it's fair that fertilizer we make lasts longer.
