However, it was not the end. In 2008, Snail Games acquired the rights and slowly started reworking the whole game. After a brief teaser in 2012, Dark and Light unexpectedly resurfaced at the ChinaJoy convention.
The game is now powered by Epic’s Unreal Engine 4.
Over the past years, the enthusiasm of the developers at Snail Games to deliver an amazing virtual world with complete freedom has never wavered. With the continuing improvements to the game engine and the unremitting effort of Snail Games development team, the next phenomenal Sandbox MMO.
Cheers to Snail Games!!
Sure any game other than coding and the engine can be called a total conversion or modding. Doesnt change the amount of work going into them and the truly massive subject that this is.
Read my reply on the previous page for a quick overview of the situation that is at least partly relevant to this topic and anyone that doesnt know those things is commenting in total ignorance.
Any competition trolling of DnL is also trolling Unreal engine...
Also read the previous pages in this topic or dont comment. :) The competition between game engines is greater than the competition between games and is huge money and high technology going to national and regional levels.
Oh lol nah I seen some confusion on the thread about it so just kindly posting the facts about Snail Games and how they own WC studio and the whole ARK franchise and also acquired the old DnL license long ago.
Ty because that fact is what this topic is about more than anything else.
The "Dark and Light" "title" being the only other relevant thing. Competition between titles and designs is also massive and huge money. HUGE.
Dark and Light is a great sounding title with an excellent premise, no doubt there will be some court action at some time fighting over it one way or another because its worth a fortune. I am not kidding and that isnt a guess. :)
New games coming out - PixArk, ARK Park and some mobile phone one too all by SG.
No way to know the details and as players who really cares right? I made the comments last couple pages so completely ignorant comments can be avoided.
I care a little because "Dark and Light" is a great title meanwhile Ark has basically been thrown in the trash a bit. I love great titles like Star Wars and LOTR and its interesting to see what happens. Star Wars is being dragged through the gutter at the moment...
There are like 5 games and other related stuff like books being built on the "Battletech" franchise at the moment and they have been fighting Macross/Robotech over designs for decades and i think there have been some cease and desists or court threats even last year rofl .. interesting stuff. :)
One of my favourite arguments ever was me saying that Battletech is worth more than Star Trek franchise. :) I got trolled alot on that. :)
This would be like saying "I should get Conan Exiles and Dark and Light free because those games have the same engine as Ark, which I bought."
At least then you'd have more similarities between DNL now and what it was back in 2008. Same logo and name, different -everything- else.
Oh, you know what game I should get for free? Every Mario game because I bought the one for nintendo back in the day. Those are all the same, right?
The DnL screenshots back in 2008 compared to now using UE4, HUGE differance.

"But it's the same game I'm owed money!"
Edit:
But really, when the core features change to the point where it's no where near the same game... I feel like you're owed nothing when the previous version burned you so bad. If you feel like you're owed that much and it chaps your hide that terribly...
Don't buy it. Simple as that. This version of DNL owes you nothing however. And hey! It's actually lived much longer than it's predecessor did.
I think sarcasm went -way- over your head. You realize I agree with you and was in no way serious about what I was saying, because I was using extreme examples? I seriously thought there would be no room for anyone to be confused by that.
Edit: Actually I wasn't even being sarcastic, I spelled it out pretty plainly, excluding the sarcastic Mario joke.
