Hi James, The manual can be accessed via the start-up screen, we will constantly be adding FAQs to this via regular updates .

Here is some concise information that you may find useful:-

Star players are the very best within their Calibre bracket.
They have the ability to individually swing the course of the match in their team's
favour, and draw large spectator attendances.
However, they demand large salaries and signing fees.
N.B. A non-star player of a higher calibre will generally perform better, than a star player of a lower calibre,

Explanation of terms etc.

Enigmatic
( Attack only – Strong negative effect on multiple defenders )
Enigmatic players have a rare ability to put challenging defenders in two minds
and cause doubt and unsureness, leading to defenders standing off and
performing significantly weaker and less effective tackles.
Resolute & Inspired defenders are immune to the effects of Enigmatic attackers.
Enigmatic defenders are also immune to the effects of an Engmatic attacker.

Inspirational
( both Attack & Defence – Prevents all negative effects on multiple team mates )
Inspirational players Inspire all team mates with a 6 metre radius of themselves,
in both attack and defence.
Inspired players are immune to both Enigmatic and Intimidation effects of
opposition players.
Inspirational players cannot themselves be Inspired.

Intimidating
( both Attack & Defence – Slight negative effect on multiple opposition )
Intimidating players cause Intimidation in the challenging defender whilst in attack,
and in the ball carrier whilst in defence. Intimidated players perform slightly
weaker tackles and poorer carries.
Resolute & Inspired players are immune to the effects of Intimidation.
Intimidating players cannot themselves be Intimidated.

Resolute
( both Attack & Defence – Prevents all negative effects on themselves only )
Resolute players are immune to both Enigmatic & Intimidation effects of
opposition players.

Team Platform
The Team Platform gauge increases as your forwards make metres and win the tackle collision. The higher the Team Platform, the more likely you are to break through the opponent's line with your backs.

Ad-Lib Attack
Use the slider on the interface at the bottom of the screen to decide whether to run the ball with the forwards or backs.

Ad-Lib Defence
Use the check boxes on the interface at the top of the screen to decide the current defensive pattern.

I hope this is helpful

Nice explanation. I think it would be nice if the terms like resolute were integrated into a mental attributes section, like in Football Manager. Tactics are the most interesting part of the game. At some point in future games, I think it would be amazing if you could award specific instructions to each position for each of 12 zones on the pitch.

For example, you could have sliders to determine things like likelihood to kick vs not kick, likelihood to pass vs likelihood to attempt to make ground with ball in hand, likelihood to set up a driving maul vs not, and likelihood to attempt to offload vs likelihood to go for a slow recycle etc. All of these things could vary according to what type of player is involved and also whereabouts on the pitch the action is taking place.

When playing opposition in games like FM, I always feel it is necessary to fine tune tactics in order to expose weaknesses, mitigate against strengths etc. What is the tactical side like? Are their individual player instructions?

Sorry for the Qs. I will try the game, but I don't think there are any name databases yet? I don't want to spend the 2 hours you get prior to refund on the editor obviously!
