Add a setting to disable chat
I know you want to push the co-op play, but some of us are die-hard soloists and really don't care that co-op exists at all. It'd be nice if we could just disable the chat system altogether. Failing that, at minimum remembering that I hid the chat from one session to another would be a welcome addition.

+1 to this along with being able to set the game to start offline

You can still click the X button on screen (I think it's top right corner off the 'chat box' lower left corner) to disable the chat. Unless you guys are talking about something else?

They added this a long time ago after many people (including myself) complained about chat littering the screen in solo play.

Yes, I have to click the X every time I launch the game, and I still get informed about new lobbies being created. This thread is to request that there be a setting that's remembered from one session to the next that just disables/hides all networked elements. The setting can be off by default, that's fine.

I had to go as far as telling my Firewall to block this game to get rid of the lobby messages which obscure part of the UI and distract the player from the game. Both of which are major examples of bad game design. No other game that I know of with a similar chatlog has no way to disable it, the only games I can think of with no option to disable chat are Multiplayer Only games and even then I have played MMOs with an option to disable chat.

Please please for the love of active reloads PLEASE make this an option. The current swarm of popularity means I am hearing a constant pingpingpingpingpingpingpingpping.

This really needs to get done as a default option.

BTW I have never played multiplayer and there is zero chance I ever will. I never want to see lobbies open thank you, especially not the new ones labelled "LLLLLLLLAAAAAAAMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMAAAAAAAAAAAAAAOOOOOOOOOOOOOO"

Yeah, this is inane for a game like this. I don't know what the devs were thinking, but the online global chat in a high action top down twin stick shooter? What the literal heck?

The red X does hide chat, but not legion/lobby pop up, or the new lobby sound. So your still gonna get spammed with blue pop ups and a lot of clicking sounds every time someone makes one.

On top of the refer a friend and newsettler locked weapons, this is very very gacha like.

Hate that Sseth didn't mention this at all, its a pretty glaring issue.

Edit: The dev given way of disabling the chat entirely is to press the log out button in the top right, though if I'm not wrong that also locks you out of playing MP with a friend. Something so simple as a hide AND mute button was not thought of, it seems. This also fixes the lobby/legion pop up spam.

+1 to this, very annoying to have a chat filled with random people when all you want this game for is single player experience.

I just love the trash talk for a single player game. It's like having an AI that can spit endlessly random vulgarities and political ponderings. Such a great feature.

Yeah, about that chat... It's really dangerous to stream with it, it's fun and all, but too much n-words.

Yeah, still wish there were a proper chat disable setting like people asked for. You can get rid of it in singleplayer with the logging out, but in multiplayer it's always a click hazard on a noticeable part of the screen, even when you close it with the X (and it eats clicks in a lot larger area than the X).

Really gets in the way if I have an enemy that direction in co-op, due to how my aim works.

I have no idea what Ultimate Edition's promised "UI improvements" are, but we can hope some clean-up of chat windows and options to just not have them at all is part of it.

Though I find all this "anti-online co-op" chatter sadly hilarious, given that about oh 95% of the games in this genre don't offer a "real" (not Steam Remote Play) online co-op mode, and people complain bitterly about that or just flat refuse to try many cool top-down/isometric roguelites/roguelikes that are strictly solo play -- such as I, Dracula, Genesis; and Dungeon Core, which are a couple solo-only games in early access that I'm enjoying. But my friends ignore them because of the lack of online play.

This strikes me as maybe the only thread on Steam where people say they don't want to touch online co-op with a socially distanced 6-foot stick. :)

I enjoy online coop, but 1) when I play SP I don't want a chat window, and 2) I just don't like having non-essential features forced on me. It was clearly a deliberate decision by the devs to not give the option of completely disabling the chat. Likely to push people towards MP, which is how you can keep the sales flowing. And I get it, but then, for heaven's sake, make it opt-out at the very least.

It's just ♥♥♥♥♥♥ behavior that really annoys me more than the dumb chat window.

More likely just different people. Online play is normally ignorable, but here it's obnoxiously intruding, filling your game with negative value chatter and the chat improperly eats clicks for a larger area than itself, so it gets in the way even when playing co-op (especially using a controller-on-mouse config).

Also, the co-op works pretty poorly and really feels tacked on even when you aren't getting annoyed by the many bugs and issues, so I wouldn't be surprised it's not a core feature for everyone.
