Think of it like playing an arcade cabinet: It takes about an hour to finish, and you can't save your progress.
Such is the case of multiplayer roguelikes these days, like Risk of Rain 2 for example.
However, Synthetik 2 is planned to have a save feature, so there's that to look forward to at least!
I hope, I will get quicker with time as now it takes 2-3 hours per run for me. I do not think that this is experience which devs had planned for.
I hate when rogue-likes do that! I just went out of my best run yet to find that the game doesn't save :( No save & quit makes this game unplayable for me. I often don't have a spare hour without interruptions, and I never got 3 in one go! Think of the gamer dads!
Dead Cells has save & quit. Why doesn't Synthetik?
if you have to go you can just tab out and mute the game, not the most convenient but its an option
