6 months ago I would have given this a glowing review. I edited entire films with it!
Sony Vegas rivaled expensive, high end editing software until the devs literally broke it.
Like so many others have said it is virtually unusable now.
It crashes frequently, just a few minutes into the edit. It just can't handle multiple tasks as seamlessly as it did.
I imagine the breakage was deliberate to make us pay for an upgrade for 200.00- less than I paid for the original.

I can't recommend it in good faith anymore. Time for us indie film vegas loyalists to move on.

If you get this on a ~75% off sale then its well worth it. Good editing software for a good price. There are many expensive editing softwares out there but this one doesn't burn a hole through your wallet.
Sony Vegas in general is designed to be fast. Adobe Premiere is more designed for control. Its easier to edit things quicker than Adobe but its not as easy to make small precise changes.

If you are looking for good editing software that doesn't break the bank, this is a good choice when its on sale.

please don't buy this on steam. it's bugged to the point of being unable to open properly

Apparently, this is very spotty on what GPU's it supports for rendering. I have a 2080 super and it does not let me turn on GPU acceleration for rendering. As a consequence, it takes ages for this program to render videos. So if you're editing videos greater than 5 mins, I would think twice about getting this software.

Having used this now for hundreds of hours, I can safely say that this is an easy to use program with so much to offer for the user.

So I bought this software because I was interested in starting a YouTube channel for fun and bought it at 40% off, which is a pretty good deal compared to other video editing softwares that reach hundreds of dollars. I have taken a Video production class before so I know general basics of any video editing program but nonetheless was brand new to the interface of VEGAS Pro. However, I never had a problem learning the basics, the window layout or how to import and export files to and from VEGAS Pro using programs like OBS, Discord, TeamSpeak and ShareX.

If I needed any help, there were plenty of YouTube videos offering basic insight into the program as well as some more advanced ones to teach more complicated and lengthy editing techniques. Nothing has ever been too difficult for me to understand or to perform within the program. It has been very easy for me to be creative during my video making process and to find new methods of creating edits that fit what I am trying to show the viewer in terms of entertainment and enjoyment. Every time I launch the software, it's not uncommon for me to try something new and find a simple manner of accomplishing that after learning the basics of the interface. The interface itself is a curve to learn, but once I figured it out and messed around with the majority of features, it became a playground for me in my editing.

At this point, concepts I worked on that took me 10-12 hours to make now take half that time since I am well acquainted with the program. Various things such as knowing where everything is, trying new things out, using keybinds (S is my best friend) and remembering quirks about the program to not necessarily help me work faster, but more efficiently.

In terms of what I don't like, there's not a big list but there are some crucial ones that I should definitely mention. The first one which has happened only once but severely ticked me off was when I had worked on a video for 6-7 hours, only for VEGAS Pro to randomly crash without me doing anything (Which has happened to me for other reasons, I'll mention those in a minute). After it crashed, I couldn't re-open the program, and simply restarted my computer to try and see if that would kind of give a rest for a moment. When I re-opened the program, that entire .veg file was corrupted and had basically deleted everything within itself and I lost all of my progress. Knowing this now, I now keep two save files for any video I work on for 1.) this only affected the project I was currently working on and 2.) did not delete any of the files imported into the project itself, therefore I could start over.
(Keep this in mind as I consider myself more lucky than most, as others claim they receive numerous crashes within the program. Check other reviews for other bugs and crashes associated with VEGAS Pro 14)

Another error happens when I have tried using the "Defocus" and "Starburst" video effects, which when I simply click those options it crashes VEGAS Pro. Everything is fine, I just simply need to launch the software again. After this happened a couple times, I got into the good habit of spamming Ctrl+S to make sure everything was saved. However, after adding a few small plugins that used these two effects, they work with the plugins but not if I try to add them individually. A small one, but when I open up the window for "Insert Text Media" on a video track, it opens the window and anytime I click below the options for FX on the text "Shadow, Outline, etc." it then closes the window on me. A minor one, but still annoying.

For anyone considering whether to get this or the newer VEGAS Pro 15 version, understand there's not that much change between them. VEGAS Pro 12 or 13 and this version are very similar except for minor details that you wouldn't notice you'd need unless you've been switching between software companies and not just upgrading to the newer versions. Basically for the half the price of Pro 15, get this instead unless you are on a professional level or are vastly experienced with video editing.

Although a good chunk of this review is written on the problems, there are easy ways around them even if they are pretty annoying. I haven't had any troubles beyond the ones mentioned above and have had a very good time using this software for my own enjoyment and hopefully the enjoyment of others with the finished work I post to YouTube.

To be honest, I bought this software back then when there was a bug price in the store page.
I know it's not a wise thing to do, but I really want to learn video editing with an original software. Plus, the price is considered expensive in my country. After I bought this software and used it for over 2000+ hours. This software have made me become a capable filmmaker.

I would like to say thanks to MAGIX Software GmbH for releasing this software to Steam.
I've been using this software for 4 years and it's really worth it for beginners.
I've made so much projects with this. Short films, music videos, cinematic, Instagram feeds and stories, documentaries, everything!

I would recommend this software if you get this software with affordable price and also with low-spec PC or laptop. I wouldn't recommend if you buy this with full price for editing because it's really outdated. You should buy a newest version of VEGAS Pro.
