inspect System memory usage and GPU memory usage while Vegas is running .
Also , in Vegas menu :
Options-->Preferences-->Video Tab , look to see what the RAM cache value is set to .
Vegas defaults that value to only 200 Meg bytes . i have set it as much as 8 gig bytes ( 8000 )
lately i have it at 2000 ( 2 gig bytes )
motherboard System memory is 16 gig bytes .
usually , Vegas is light weight , when it comes to system memory usage .
