VEGAS Pro 14 Edit Steam Edition

Slight Flickering Render Bug
I have trouble with my video slightly flickering from a little darker to little lighter. If you look at this video and second from 00:08-00:15 and you look at the right top (on the factory) you will notice that the whole screen is flickering a bit.
The actual recording does not flicker but after i render it in Vegas , it starts doing that.

Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=muH_pAWZzs0

I am using these render settings and I have GPU acceleration off:
Variable bitrate with max 6000kbs and average 4000kbps. 29.97 FPS.
MainConcept AVC/AAC.
Field order none (progressive scan).

The original recording has 6000 kbps and 29.97FPS. This happens on multiple videos not just this one.
I could change the codec completely but I need for 25minute files to only have like 800-900MB to be able to upload them to youtube so if you have any reccomendations on how to increase quality but keep the video this small I would love to know that as well.

Thank you so much.

oops , looks like Magix\MainConcept templates don't have h.265

Pro Res "422 LT" is a really good codec for video capture . It is 10 bit per channel .
RGB then is 30 bit , for 1 billion colors . 422 LT is gonna be too large for what you want .

For Delivery , which is what most of us do : Deliver a finished video to the Tube or Disk ,
the best mainstream thing going is h.264 .
i tried the Intel HEVC once or twice , but didn't like the results . i always use Sony AVC\MVC.

if someone is editing\color grading video , Pro Res 422 LT would be really good , provided the source footage was recorded in 422 LT 10 bit . When done editing\color grading , render out to h.264 8 bit , to Deliver the final video . ( Delivery always involves smaller file size with what is seen to have acceptable video quality ) .

You will have to choose a bit rate( to control file size ) verses acceptable quality of the h.264 .
i realize you have already been doing that .

Sony AVC\MVC AVCHD template allows typing a custom bit rate , such as 6 Mbps .
that should put you back to the desired file size without the flicker . ( that was the goal ) .
i have noticed , image quality( mosaics ) increase at these lower h.264 bit rates .
again ,
supposedly , h.265\HEVC is able to give higher quality video at such a lower bit rate( 6 Mbps ) , as compared to h.264 at lower bit rates ( 6 Mbps )

Try this :

Vegas Menu : File-->Properties-->Video Tab
Quality "Best"
deinterlace Method "None" ( your source footage is progressive scan )
re-sampling "Disable" re-sampling

and you said your Options-->Preferences-->Video Tab GPU is set to OFF .

try Vegas Menu : Tools-->burn disc-->burn blu-ray disc
choose to burn to hard drive
choose Sony AVC\MVC
choose one of the 10 Mbps options( to help reduce file size )
( will be 29.97i or 24p ) i guess you'll have to use 29.97i
( don't sweat it , give 29.97i a try )

choose Dolby Digital .ac3 ( to help reduce file size )
render will go out to .iso file
mount the .iso file using windows explorer .
in the .iso , find file 00000.m2ts
and copy it to a convenient location .
rename as needed .

Does that meet your file size constraint ?
Is the quality what you want ?

Hey wakeme,
thank you so much for commenting.
I could't find 29.97i so I went with 24p instead. The other options were 50i or 60i.
The quality is much better and it fixed the flicker however the file size is too big. It ends up around 1,5GB. Any ideas how to make it even smaller?
Thank you.

29.97i is the same as 60i . for some reason , 60i is a newer name for 29.97i

you could go into the regular "Render As" and choose Sony AVC\MVC , there you
can choose a more custom bit rate at 6 Mbps .

Also . h.265 HEVC is iniside of Intel and Magix templates .

the word is : at the same bit rates , h.265 will give the same quality as h.264
with an even smaller file size . or h.265 can use a higher bit rate then h.264
to give h.265 even more quality while the size of the h.265 file will be the same size
as the h.264 file .

h.265 at 6 Mbps
h.264 at 6 Mbps

h.265 will have the smaller file size , with the same quality as the h.264
or
h.265 at 10 Mbps
h.264 at 6 Mbps
h.265 will now have the same file size as h.264 , while h.265 video has more quality then h.264 .

( 10 and 6 )Mbps was just an illistration , not an exact example .

I don't see an option for h265 in HEVC. It just says HEVC in Intel options in Magix I get Pro HQ,XQ, Pro 422. Which one is h264 and h265?
I tried the HEVC but the resulting file is like 4,5GB so like 4 times bigger.

I have manged to change the bluray settings but for some reason the quality is now way worse. It might just be the source video though. I will try to play around with it some more.

I am using the AVC/MVC Sony (not mainconcept) like you reccomended and it fixed the flickering while keeping the quality. Thank you :)
