No fault of Music Maker . No fault of Vegas .
Scenario : Music Maker takes exclusive control of the sound card ( device ) .
causing all other programs to be "locked out" from using that
particular sound card .
here is the fix :
Inside of Music Maker Settings , choose a sound card ( device )
such as Realtek on-board audio .
While in windows audio playback devices , choose a default system wide
sound card ( device ) to be something Different , such as Logitech headphones .
The result ?
Music Maker plays audio on the Realtek speakers .
all other programs that are running play audio on Logitech headphones ,
which is the system wide default .
So ,
inside of Discord settings , is there anyway to manually select a sound card
such as what is described above ? if Yes , then that should be the fix .
2 sounds cards play at the same time , from 2 or more different programs .
Vegas will always use windows default sound card ( device) , thus
Discord settings needs to be able to manually select a different sound card ,
Only possible if your machine has 2 or more sound cards .
No one ever said a computer can't use 2 sound cards as the same time .
it does , i have done it ( Music Maker lead to that conclusion )
Right click on your windows volume mixer (your volume) , go to Sounds (probably 4th option), then click in Communication tab, and change it to "Do nothing". After that, you can go to the first tab on the same window (Playback tab), select your main/default device, properties, advanced and uncheck the "allow softwares to take control..."
Now the next time you open Sony Vegas it shouldn't interfere with your Discord.
This fixed my problem
I've been struggling with this issue for two days. I googled around for solutions and found no answer. It was by chance I noticed opening Vegas was muting everything else, Discord included. I can confirm that this solution works also on Windows 11 though you have to access the sounds settings via Control Panel>Hardware and Sound>Sound
Thanks for the solution!
In Windows go to Control Panel > Sound > Select your device > Properties > Advanced Tab > Exclusive Mode > And uncheck the boxes
