About Costume
I think it's a very useful trick, and if I'm free I will write a 'Something you may not know in Atelier Firis', just like that of Atelier Sophie.

Every costume has its own effect. You can check it when you change costume by pressing X button.

Another thing you must know: when you start a SECOND RUN of this game, you will save someting from your first run. The most important, you will get ALL the costume effect at the same time, no matter which you wear.

Now let's go. Start the game, progress the story until you get out of your underground hometown. Then go into your camp, SLEEP and SLEEP until Liane take you home and leads the story to an end (bad end). Save the clear file and load it, you will see some notice of a second run. Again, progress the story until you leave, then go into the camp and change your costume.

OK, here you have to change your costume at least once, so you can active all the effect within one costume now. Just pick one in your favor, and you will not need to change your costume over and over any more to get the costume effect.

---- 3.10 edit ----
In your second run, even If you do not get the costume, you will still get the effect, including DLC costume effect even without DLC costume.

Yeah I just got my second reccomendation and I been thinking of farming a ton of cole, then just forcing the bad end, your proficency with alchemy also transfers over on each item, so spam them suckers to pass the time. IIRC: Money, equipped gear, item proficency, all effects from all costumes at once, and there is another bonus or 2 that you get for a ng+

Once you start the 2nd playthrough on New Game+, all costume effects will be active when you unlock the option to change costume, even if you didn't obtain any of them in the 1st playthrough.

That's a really neat trick, thanks for sharing it. Not really interested in starting a second run through but I would've totally done this if I had known earlier.

I'm guessing that there's no bonus or achievement for passing the exam on your first playthru, so nothing is missable if I force fail this run and do a ng+?

Defeating Sophie is an achievement.

That can only be achieved on a first play-thru or can I defeat her on ng+?

You are correct. There is no bonus or any real incentive to do everything on your first playthrough other than maybe challenging yourself...

On the other hand, you'll probably really want to get the bad ending, since if you complete the exam, you're gonna have to spend maybe an hour or so at least to complete a character ending before you can choose to go to NG+.

Yeah I'm going to synthesize a bunch of items (probably focusing on bombs and equipment) for the level ups to make the second run a breeze in that regard. How does the equipped gear carry over? Say I have gear on il or Drossel, will that gear carry over, or just what I have equipped to Firis and Liane?
