how in the hell do i get better armor and weapons.
yea whats frustrating about this game is the only gear i can make is the starter crap and i have that request to kill level 16 fangs but they utterly destroy me. looks like im gonna have to restart the game because that prick in the cafe has a nasty habit of giving requests for enemies that are way too strong.

You have to unlock the necessary materials for the equipment to be available, usually the metal or cloth.

maybe if i could enhance my stupid gear it would hold me over until i can make brand new ones. its all because time moves so fast in this game that you dont have the time to do anything. if you get a reguest to kill an enemy in 20 days and it happenes to be too strong like those damn fangs you are basicly screwed.

You don't have to complete all the requests, you could easily go through the game with 10 or so (the only thing you need requests for is to get 20 vouchers for a pendegrune, towards the end of the game), and there's no problem with just repeating easy requests. The starter weapons can also take you more than halfway through the game on despair difficulty without too much trouble (because I did just that; not as an intentional challenge, just because I didn't feel like bothering with better weapons until I could make really good ones), you just need to put a couple half-decent traits on them.

On easy difficulty, I could finish the game (not counting DLC bosses) without ever crafting a single weapon or armour.

Why would you need to restart the game, anyways? Failing or giving up on a request isn't a big deal, there's no penalty. If you want to unlock every recipe, there's even a point where you have to give up on requests on purpose.

too late i already started the game over again. so what are good traits anyway. also if i fail a request will it ever show back up. see i was worried about failing the fang request and then it would be gone forever. also how do you put traits on gear without creating new ones and how do you unlock enhancing.

There are no requests that will be lost forever even if failed in the game they will always show up again. And yeah theres literally no penalty in cancelling a request or failing them heck one recipe idea requires you to cancel requests 5 times to get the idea >.<. The only way to put traits on weapons IS by creating new weapons thats the whole point of the crafting you can have 2 same weapons with wholly different stats based on the traits and quality of items you used to make it.

Enhancing is unlocked by raising your friendship level with Logy and Leon for weapons and armor respectively if i remember correctly

Btw you can combine some traits to get better ones if you do them correctly i believe theres a complete guide for trait recipes in the steam community guide.

Requests can show up again (they're randomly chosen, so it's just a matter of luck), whether you complete them, fail them, or decide not to take them. Even if they don't show up again, it wouldn't matter because requests don't matter to the story at all, they're just something extra you can do if you want. If you don't care about unlocking every recipe and getting all the achievements, you can even finish the game without ever completing a request.

You can only put traits on equipment when you craft them, so you'll have to atleast unlock weapon crafting (I think you just need to craft an Ingot, then talk to Logy, maybe go through a couple of Logy's events until he tells you about crafting weapons; armour crafting isn't unlocked until later), you just don't need to unlock any better weapons beyond the starting ones. For traits, to get good traits you should really have alchemy level 20 (so you can transfer two traits at a time, making it a lot easier to combine traits), but you can manage with just level 10. Keep in mind that you can always add 3 traits to weapons/armour.

Well Rounded Power (+25 to all stats) is the best trait to aim for, as soon as you start finding materials with Attack/Defense/Speed Boost you should make it.
In the very beginning, before you can get that, some good choices are ATK DEF Enhance/Boost (just so you can get the defence on a weapon, the attack isn't important), Increase Sharpness, Cuts Easily, Eco Skill, and Skill Cost Compress.

Accessories are more important than weapons. As soon as you learn to craft Meister Mittens (the first accessory you learn), buy some Silver Potatoes from Marguerite, put Mutated Material on Meister Mittens for everyone, and you'll be pretty much invincible for the first 40% of the game or so, even on despair difficulty. Put Mutated Material on armour too, as soon as Leon lets you craft it (after you learn to make Cloth).

And all of that is just if you care about being cheap. If you're okay with being stupidly overpowered until the very end of the game, then as soon as you find any material with Critical ++ on it, make some attack items with One Hit Kill, then you can instantly kill any enemy except for bosses, as long as they don't wipe out your entire party before you can attack. That completely removes any challenge from the game though, and it's already easy on despair difficulty once you know what you're doing.

Look at the guides if you're not sure how to combine those traits.

This guide?
Well specifically the google doc:
steam://openurl/https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1FYRoF2IWFnGlVnwkBJsAss0ncp4Dli2gDD7qXyq2arQ/edit?usp=sharing

I do have all the traits listed yes.

Not quite. You have almost all of the pre-DLC traits at least. From the pre-DLC traits, it looks like you're missing two, just going by the number of traits listed. The only one that stands out to me is Absorb Soul (HP Absorb + Steal Life), I'm not sure what the other one is.
Edit: It's missing more than I thought, there's also Power of Life, Wisdom of the Gods, and HPMP Super Enhance. Since my count was already off apparently, I'm not sure if there are more.

Then there are about 30 additional traits that are only available after you beat the final boss.

i had the same question once too. The answer, after i played through the game, is that there aren't better weapons in the game.(relatively speaking) You get more damage through enhancing with items with traits

http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=879258284

Here is how you do it, this is your starting 1-3dmg Starting Staff, each Stahl Metal adds +4 damage, 16 attack and 11 defense, and the weapon can be enhanced 6 times(diminishing returns so ~4 will suffice) then you go to the clothier, if you have him already, and do the same to your armor, and your damage will skyrocket. And every other stat too.

And you also craft the weapon with the same traits listed, you can get them right from the beginning areas. Traits for armor and accessors differ slightly but the general process is the same.

Kill request is easy lol, crafting request is **** thanks to useless interface. You will kill yourself because there's no easy way to sort through thousands of crap Sophie pick up for the very specific trait the request ask you to make. The unique trait is relatively simple if you remember what material has them, but more general trait can be a pain in the butt.

^You do realize that you can filter items by trait.. or most things, really? Just.. filter. You can even look into your whole container and filter the whole thing, to see what has a specific trait, which is useful to see on what items you can even get it at first.

That said, I almost never did requests, that I couldn't fulfill before accepting already. Why bother. They shuffle every two days anyway, no time-limit either. And I still got more tickets I ever need, enough to even buy some high cost limited equip, the date ticket, some dragon fangs, 2 pendegrune and whatnot.. just by feeding them random gathererable stuff I have too much on hand anyway.
