Xbox 360/one Controller Manual Button Mapping For Everyone Who Has To Do it Manually
Hello everyone. I know a lot of you are having issues with this ports controller button mapping. A lot of us unable to even get past the first tutorial due to it. Then when you come here everyone is suggesting the automatic button mapping in the settings before you start the game. Then you find it does not work and you are stuck with just the numbers and nothing else to work with. Allow me to rectify this issue for you once and for all.

Please go to the controller map settings in the splash screen settings menu before you start the actual game.

Proceed to map these numbers to each button manually assuming you are using an xinput 360 controller or xbox one controller. These may not be accurate for other controller types.

1 = A
2 = B
3 = X
4 = Y
5 = Left Bumper
6 = Right Bumper
7 = back
8 = start
9 = Left analog stick push button
10 = Right analog stick push button
11 = left trigger
12 = right trigger
13 = menu button (not needed in this case)

IF THIS DOES NOT WORK TRY THE FOLLOWING AS IT HAS WORKED FOR PEOPLE WHO CAN NOT USE THIS METHOD

1. Go to your devices and printers window in your windows machine assuming you are using windows. This will either be in your control panel or settings depending on which OS you are using.

2. Right click your controller icon from here and click game controller settings.

3. Go to the test tab.

4. Simply with this window open go back to the controller settings for Nights and click the first key map menu. Simply click the buttons on your controller that corespond with the picutres in the settings menu. This SHOULD work.

I hope this helps you play this game. It took me a few hours of testing buttons to find the right setup for this game as I have a third party controller that doesn't tend to work well with auto mapping however it is xinput just like the first party controllers this should work for you as well. If this does not work, I would suggest finding an xinput emulator like x360ce and then trying the automatic keymapping setup that is intended in this same settings menu. Have a good day!
