The game launcher only goes up to 1080p.
Set the settings you want in launcher, save, set resolution in registry then launch game.
Or you can set all settings in registry, dof of 0 is off.

game launcher goes up to 3840*2160 actually for me atleast.

here is how to run Atelier in Borderless Fullscreen w/o 3rd party programs

Requirements: Win8,10.
we are going to create a registry entry that tells Windows to run Atelier in Borderless Fullscreen

open regedit and navigate to:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Direct3D\Shims\MaximizedWindowedMode

rightclick, create a new 32bit DWORD, and name it the path of the Atelier game, example:

D:\Games\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Atelier Sophie The Alchemist of the Mysterious Book\A17.exe

set hex value, 1 for borderless fullscreen, 0 for true fullscreen. This is how it should look: http://imgur.com/a/MqkjS

Applied it and it doesn't crash on task switch anymore(not that i did that anyway). In fact i guess you can force any not particularly nitpicky game to run in borderless(or fullscreen) this way. ( This is a reverse fix from.. FF13.. this game truly brings out the worst in people (source)

I tried it and sadly it doesn't work on W7. So only on W8-10.

Very experimental fix for the menu issue at the usual location...
https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/0B7VXEPnaNC1qLU4xVnoyRHhtVjg

The new file to get is: A17modV2_OneTweakNG_Experimental_Fix

I couldn't get it to compile properly so I took out some irrelevant stuff to get it working. Regardless, the new fix doesn't replace d3d9.dll so I believe it will be a lot more compatible. If you previously downloaded the old A17mod, delete the d3d9.dll in your Atelier Sophie folder; I don't know if they conflict.

Caveats are very similar - losing the D3D device will crash the game. But you can use overlays now!

- Low resolution 2D assets

seems like the menu thing is a amd grapics card problem and niv cards dont have that issue but im not sure

I really have to disagree with the "fundamentally flawed" part because if it was, the bugs that need to be fixed wouldn't be fixable without significant work. A game that is fundamentally flawed is FF13, where fixing the issues there would probably require an engine re-architect; frame limiters dependent on frameskipping are hard to fix.

So far, the game runs quite well even significantly below minimum requirements(1) once the stupid bugs are fixed, suggesting that the port is "fundamentally good" but has some really awful--but simple to fix--bugs. If you look at the system requirements, they only list nVidia video cards. My guess is they never tested on AMD cards lol - and AMD drivers don't have break the spec so the game runs better like nVidia ones do.

I don't think it's wise to attribute to malice what can be attributed to ignorance or stupidity, or even laziness - they probably were like, well it runs okay on the 550Ti but that's minimum spec, so whatever...

(1) Atelier Sophie runs at 1080p/50fps (panel refresh is 50Hz) on the equivalent of a 8600GTS (my nVidia laptop has a K1000M) without issue, provided the menu fix is installed. CPU fix did not affect my framerates. (edit: but it killed multitasking performance and ate my battery life alive...)

Indeed. I well remember the many bugs (including ones that made the game unplayable), that were present in games at their release years ago. Call me naive or overly optimistic, but I'm rather glad the (coding) bugs that are present are ones that are easy to fix.

I havent played the game, so take my words with a pinch of salt if you want to. The way I see it its a pretty great port, but with a 'bad line of code' or two. From the Nvidia perspective. For someone with an AMD card it would be considered a bad port.

ps: testing for compatibility these days isnt that simple I imagine. More and more hardware gets added, faster then old models disappear. (heh, altho they should of atleast tested it on an AMD build)
that's ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ i ran it on my RX470 @4k finely here.
no ♥♥♥♥ whatsoever.

And it worked! Thank you...though this definately needs to be fixed. (framerate in menus, I mean)
The experimental fix worked like a charm for me in menus, thank you so much! Solid 120 fps everywhere now~~

Dear 百合,

Your modded dinput8.dll file saved the game for me because my OCD couldn't deal with the menu lag.

Thanks a lot. You really know your ♥♥♥♥.

I would love a way to change resolution, when I go to settings I cant pick screen size, any changes done and saved crash the config, there wasn't even an ini for the settings in my documents, I copied it from a friend and I suspect that it doesn't even work, game still starts in 720p, full of edges so I doubt multisampling is working, I use borderlessgaming to make it fullscreen but it still looks pretty bad.
SHUN 14 febr. 2017 la 2:46
I play on fullscreen. The dinput8 file works but when I alt+tab or change window, the A17(game window) window turns completely white then crashes.
