bronze, silver or golden crowns in the campaign- Kind of ranking?

Hello there! i have a question to the game and i can´t find the answer! But first i have to explain the background:
When i want to start a new campaign, there is a picture on the right side, that shall describe the game...on the top right corner are 3 slots for crowns, bronze, silver and gold (when i have all)...i remember, that in some campaigns you see a figure of the 3 heroes at the end, and those figures are either bronze, silver or gold...
So.. my question is: HOW can i get the golden hero at the end or the golden crown of that campaign?

Complete that scenario on the biggest difficulty. That's all, afaik. Those are for the three difficulties.

Yep, the crowns mark the difficulty you won: Bronze is apprentice, silver is journeyman, gold is master.

Not sure about the statues, though, I won silver in 3 of the campaigns, the statues were still bronze, I think.
