is there a way to disable the chaos mechanic?
I don't mind the game being hard, i'm enjoying the fights and such but even on easy it seems almost impossible to keep the chaos level low.

Perhaps there should be an option to turn it off or down on the easiest setting?

I agree, I presume the game is balanced around the fact that you can't easily just grind to level whatever and then finish the game easily because of the time pressure of the chaos mechanic, however even on easy mode this seems to make the game much 'shorter' and harder than it should/could be. Even the free-roam version has a chaos mechanic, which saddens me a bit.

Right, sometimes you just want to relax a little bit and look around.
It's annoying because maybe i want to go check out these two towns and go look at those ruins up there...
WRONG! You're gonna head down to that chaos shrine, but don't worry as soon as you clear that one, i have another already on the timeline.

Don't get me wrong, i understand that's a part of what makes the game hard . By no means remove it. But on the lowest difficulty it either needs to be toned down more or have an option to disable it.

Afterall, we're not playing on easy for the challenge of it.

No answer? I have not played much yet and already I am fairly sure I wont enjoy being hounded by this timer. Any way to slow it or disable it?

slow it down by house rules, making one chaos per 30 turn instead of 8 (and reduce chaos even make this further)
apprentice > house rules

though i play on frost area without dealing with final boss so i can just roam around :D and heal as neccesary

You can not completey turn it off but you can change the rate of appearing chaos in the "houserules".

Holy Necro Batman!

That being said i still can't believe that this simple and often requested feature hasn't been added yet.
I'd probably still be playing this if i could turn that damn timer off.

It has changed from 2 years ago, for any new players that look, its a lot easier now to kill things to lower it and doing quests to lower it the game is easier but still rough and fun.

Yeah, you can increase the timer by a lot now, but it's still there. The fact that they did this makes it even more perplexing that they haven't added an option to turn it off to be honest.

U tried playing in ice region?
Frost Adventure has no chaos but the world will damage you over time outside of the starting area I think, it's been a while.
House rules can make it take as long as possible

I'm playing this for the first time today, and there are so many combat events and shrine events that can lower the chaos level, I can't see it as a problem really. you kinda have to go out of your way to AVOID doing things that lower the chaos level.

Multiplayer can be a little unfocused. I usually make the frequency about 2 turns slower so we dont have to try hard the whole game and can all goof around a little bit more.

Yep same here, back in the day though man, you had to run as fast as possible skipping everything to not have chaos on you in less than 20m

I cannot dispute this. I have had several things that that do lower chaos.

Chaos has not been a huge issue but I am going much faster than I would like to. I feel underlevel for the content it is throwing at me and since it is my first playthrough I don't know what to expect. I don't know if I actually have time or not.

I have a scourge spawn now that threatens to steal my gear, on the way towards that some grass stole stuff off me. Everything seems fairly intent on making it miserable for me. A challenge is only a challenge if I have some chance of beating the event.
So far it's just been the game saying 'I am breaking this now, I am taking that now, I am spawning something far too high a level for you to possibly beat now'. A little disheartening to say the least.

I suspect this game is not for me even though I do like the looks, combat and general feel of it. It's hard enough to get stuff without having two things spawn in two turns that are randomly going to take stuff. Equipment that can randomly self destruct. Ahh well /sigh.

edit so I just alt/tabbed back into the game and a 'Wraith of simon ??????' spawned on one character with the initiative and two shot me. How is that right ?

Parking it up.

This is technically cheating, but you can roll at the Carnival for -1 or -2 Chaos and reset to your save with alt-F4 if you miss the roll.
