Blacksmith / Minstral / Hunter is a very solid starting combo.

1 Tank, 1 Physical DPS, and 1 Mage seems to do the trick which will also help with rolls on Point of Interest Hexes because of their varying STATs. For beginners, I would recommend Blacksmith/Hunter/Scholar. The reason why I opted for Scholar instead of a Minstrel is because having a Scholar allows you to learn more about the game with his Refocus ability. With the Refocus ability you can use Focus more often and test more Point of Interest Hexes. Hunter, is most likely the best class in the game which will fulfill your Physical DPS role. The Hunter class ability Called Shot can help alieviate a bit of the RNG in combat. The only reason I recommended the Blacksmith is because that is the only viable Tank class unlocked at the start. But overall, you will need a tank class since there are shields in the game that boost Party Armor/Resist later on in the game and Taunt comes in handy occasionally. For a more interesting composition when you have unlocked more classes I would suggest you try: Buskar (Tank), Hunter (DPS), Minstrel (Mage) which are all very combat oriented.
