In terms of a better fix, while the Valve Index is supported via Steam, it isn't a headset that we can officially guarantee will work as intended for the game itself in every case or set-up. To try and get the mic to work effectively, I'd recommend checking that your activation volume for the mic is high enough for easy detection in-game, that the Index mic continues to be the only input device enabled, and to run through our PC troubleshooting[support.ubisoft.com]. These steps will help to optimise your PC and make sure that everything is working smoothly.
Other owners of the Index headset may be able to offer their insight to you as well here on the forums; I have seen a few other threads from other players using the Index.
