Rank colours?
Is there any sort of logic in them?
Sometimes my rank is blue, sometimes it is red, others yellow.
I know that you can't go past captain, but does these colours just appear randomly or so?

If you're talking uniform colors, those don't indicate rank on Star Trek, they indicate department. Red is Engineering and Security, Blue is Science and Medical, and Yellow is Command.

(On the Next Generation and beyond, red and yellow switched places.)

Don´t go for engineering, those redshirts seldom survive....

No, I'm speaking about the crew selection slots colours.

Sometimes I would have my current rank (commander or so) and before we go into the ship, my ranks are either red or blue or yellow. Is there any particular reason for that?

Anyone figure this out? Mine went from red to blue then back to red. I am wondering if it has to do with the number of completed .vs failed missions?

I believe it cycles through the colors with increasing number of shapes until you get to 3 gold for the rank of captain.

It's easy, they just went throught the three department colours for ease of differenting the ranks, but it's the same typical TOS (Kelvin) rank structure :
Red shirt with no stripe = Ensign. Blue shirt with thin stripe = Lieutenant junior grade. Gold shirt with thick stripe = Lieutenant. Red shirt with thick and thin stripe = Lieutenant Commander. Blue shirt with two thick stripes = Commander. Gold shirt with 2 thick and one thin in-between = Captain.
