Trouble connecting with Rift players
So I got the game, played through the tutorials, and it looks great. I'm using the Vive, and two of my friends have it on the Rift, having bought it in the Oculus store.
But when I try to connect with these guys, their names are all greyed out inside the game, even though they're on my contact list on UPlay.

Anyone know how to work around this?

Having a similar issue, have friend in uplay list. See their name however all invite and join options are greyed out.

same here, can't invite friends to game unless the status says they are already ingame.
I can see my friends from oculus ingame
but my friends from steam who are ingame, are shown online in the uplay client part of the game
thus preventing me from inviting them.
when looking in uplay client on pc all players are ingame, but from there there is no option to invite them.

Same happened with Project Cars. Oculus store purchasers cannot play with Steam purchasers, I got Project cars on steam for my rift and I can play against vive players and oculus players on steam. But a friend bought project cars on Oculus store abnd he cant play against us.

Think we've been f**ked over again....... Another gaming community split.

Fingers crossed they will fix this.

Same here, any workarounds?

Maybe its some sort of account linking issue where uPlay/steam doesn't recognize the fact that the account now connected to the game?

workaround Is trying to quick match into the game.
it's a bug with private games only

I suspect it is because UPlay thinks the friend with the other version is playing a different game, so it doesn't let you invite or join him and just greys out the buttons.

On the other hand the game lets you invite/"join" UPlay friends that don't even own the game.

The "Workaround" we applied:

The 2 players who were able to invite/join were on Steam, they started a game and made it public. The other 2 players on Oculus used Quick Play to randomly join a room. With a bit of luck you end up on the correct one. If the Steam players receive another player, he/she sadly needs to be kicked. Rince/Repeat, until all 4 players are matched.

We had a blast! Game is awesome!

Ubi announced a patch for it: http://forums.ubi.com/showthread.php/1679067-Known-Issues-May-30th-2017
Additionally, they claim restarting the game works around the issue.
