Readme: Valve Index Support
NOTE: Gripping the controller will sometimes prevent trigger presses from responding. You will need to let go of the controller (let it "float" out of your open hand) and then press the trigger.

For the launch of Valve Index, we have released a set of controller bindings that will allow you to take advantage of the Index Controllers' capacitive sensors so you can reach out and grab objects naturally.

To enable these controls, open SteamVR and go to Settings > Controller Binding (or Devices > Configure Controller on desktop).

From there, find and select The Gallery from your list of applications. Then, select the "Index Default" binding.

Index Default
This binding will enable capacitive grabbing and telekinesis, and works for all movement types (including stickmove). We recommend changing the following in-game setting for use with this configuration:
  • Input Options > Use Item > Trigger or Grip

Please note that these control options are experimental and may cause irregularities in gameplay. Changing additional game/input settings may cause further issues.

Good job, I haven't heard many else that have pushed bindings for their games, or at least mentioned it 😅 I'll try to publish a few of mine for games that are otherwise unplayable with the new controllers 🤔

Great news thermyy, thanks again!

Ran into a game breaking bug tonight. While trying to do the cog locks both to get into and in Sebastian's study, eventually one of the pieces always gets stuck to my hand. I can't drop it, and I can't grasp another one. The only way to fix this is to exit the game. Super frustrating.

That issue may be more prominent when using Grip detection to grab — try using the legacy binding to pass the puzzle.

I can't even get into the game! I literally can't select the type of environment I'm playing in at the beginning. I just can't interact with the menu at all. I can point at things just fine, but no buttons do anything.

+1 @Baldrickk. Same problem for me

Try releasing your grip from the controller before pressing the trigger. As the index config counts a “grip grab” as a trigger pull, it won’t let you press both actions at once.

Whenever I try to grab an item out of the inventory, the menu opens instead and the bag closes. This is particularly strange because the bag does not close, when I press the menu button directly.
This always happens wether I grip the controller or not. This makes me unable to listen to any audio recordings. Has this happened to anybody else?

I have a very slow smooth locomotion while standing and not using the touch and thumbsticks. I really would like to enjoy the game with smooth locomotion beta, but the constant slow moving is not good. Can somebody help?

I tried this my my index controllers don't seem to work, I can not select anything in the main menu upon game launch. everything is blurry so 1st I tried to access the graphics menu but could get that far, the system button seems to be "enter" but that brings up the steam menu also.

I'm running into this too. My Index controller worked perfectly for Episode 1, but none of my buttons seem to be functional in the menus except the system button in Episode 2.
