how did vinnie survive the fall from the first game

i need a anwser i just dont get how he could survive the fall or the gas i cant it out of my mind of how he survive the fall did i miss something in the story

Vinnie did not fall at the end the first game, he flew away in the blimp escaping the doomed city of Thugtown. Frankie on the other hand fell out of the blimp but got stuck on the anchor of the blimp and so he didn't fall to his death. Frankie was able to hold his breath while dangeling on the anchor underneath the flying blimp, just long enough to be able to jump into an open window when the blimp passed near a tall building, thus surviving the poisonous gas. He was able to stay alive using gasmasks from deceased soldiers, untill the gas finally settled down. Since everybody in Thugtown was dead and he had nowhere else to go Frankie slowly started to plan his revenge on Vinnie.

but did'int the anchor get destroyed by the rockets being shot at the blimp?

depends on which difficulty you play in, but normally it did not get destroyed.
