Also cannon wise, out of .hack Legends of Twillight anime and manga, the Manga is cannon.
There are also some retellings of the events that are either completely different or a different perspective. i.e the First 4 IMOQ follows MC Kite's view, while the novel Another Birth follow's Blackrose's perspective of the events of IMOQ.
which has files that Unlock as you the first 3 volumes., but the first 4 files each cover 1 volume of the previous 4 games.
This was very jarring the first time I watched it with some friends since I was the only one who had played the 4 games and they didn't have a clue how the anime went from building up to a big event and then oh everyone's having a party and who tf is this orange guy and all these other characters lol
It's only the last episode that takes place after them so no worries.
Actually watching Sign will be beneficial to playing the original games since you'll recognise characters, names and things in the games that are references to the anime, or similar themes.
They are after all sequels to Sign.
