Tips for newcomers to Dot Hack

There are a couple things you can do to try to ease up the frustrating parts of the game and allow yourself to progress faster in fights and in dungeons.

1st Thing is to stock up on Fairy Orbs. These items are really cheap and they completely reveal the map of a dungeon. This makes progressing through dungeons far less time consuming if you just want to progress through the game.

2nd Learn how to guard cancel. This one isn't major as combat is already easy but can help you get through fights faster. As Haseo can cancel his attacks by pressing block. This is good because it can help make yourself safe but also perform infinite combos on enemies as they stagger heavily from all attacks and can be done with any weapon you have. Because of this technique Broadswords become the best weapon type in the game due to the dps increase.

3rd Is to look for an npc in Vol. 1 Mac Anu named Corporal Yano. This npc is capable of trading you a Beginner's Book or Beginner's Text. Both of these will raise your skill level by a considerable amount. Once you've traded with him you can travel to a different part of the town and come back to him to have him restock his items so you can trade with him again. This exploit is used because of how long it actually takes to level skill level. It's the only thing that's really difficult to level in G.U. unless you do this exploit. You'll want to stock up on a lot of them before heading into Vol.2 and 3 so you can use them to level up your skills with the weapons you'll acquire.

4th Be sure to do all the sidequests and endgame content for each volume. Each volume's sidequest (excluding Bikman's Flyers) provides you with unique equipment and each volume has an endgame quest. Other endgame content includes beating the Doppleganger which also gives you some really strong equipment.

5th Is the bike time trial exploit. This a big time saver on doing these so a lot of people tend to do them as getting 1st place can be a pain. All you need to do is look for the king chim chim and once you're about to hit it bring up the map and exit. If you've done it correctly you'll automatically win the time trail as for some reason it grants you multiple stacks of the king chim chim despite you only hitting one. Sometimes it'll only grant you two stacks so you'll still have to look for another but you should finish 1st with this exploit.

These are all the ones that come to mind so far. I might add some more later if I can think of any. lol

You know how in vol 1 after every mission it makes you LOG OUT and do things before logging back in..... every damn time. Does that change in the other volumes?

I would only do this after Vol. 1. Roots was only made as a prologue to Vol. 1 and it features characters that appear in Vol. 2

Sadly it does. The game tries to replicate old school way of playing mmos and checking your email and forums.
