Classic .hack games ever coming to steam?
I'd love to have the complete collection here like I used to have on ps2

It all depends on the success of GU. But whether if they continue with .hack or do a IMOQ remaster is a complete mistery

Tell Bandi/Namco on their twitter you want this series remastered. They have already gotten some requests and replied that they are willing to do it if there is enough interest.

This.

It's pretty unlikely considering how niche and small the fanbase of this game is, but it's not impossible.

I wouldn't mind buying IMOQ on steam :)

I'm glad they did GU first, it's by far the better series especially for newcomers to .hack. The original series was fine but the grind was unbelievable and frankly the gameplay was really simplistic... then you stretch that out over 4 games with a story that doesn't really get going until like the 3rd game... yeah they picked the right one to start with.

I would buy the original quadrilogy up in a heartbeat if they did a remaster of it too. I've sunk undoubtedly thousands of hours on the 7 games altogether, and Last Recode is a dream come true (minus a few nitpicks like lip-syncing still being absent from a lot of cutscenes). It was definitely a good idea to start with G.U. first like Serin9X said, for the reasons stated, but not only that, the graphics in the original 4 are just... Well, they would take a lot more work to polish (as I'm sure you'll agree).

That said, I'm sure they would reduce the amount of grind a bit as they rebalance it. And the game may be a bit niche here in America, but as I understand it, it's pretty huge in Japan.
I actually feel like the IMOQ quadrilogy would be nice, but only after we get some new games, or at least one new .hack. It'd be kinda bad if CC became a company that basically just did nothing but remasters.

I'd not complain

I'd LOVE to see the originals get some love on Steam. Even if was only a slight polish and push. Though, reworking them to be a little less of a painful grind would be nice.

An IMOQ remaster would be one of the best things they could do going forward. They already know that it's a beloved set of games, and all they really need to do is work on graphics and some rebalancing. They don't have to do anything like level design, a new plot, voice acting, bug fixing, etc. So it could come out far quicker than a new game could.

I do also wish for a new game or set of games, but if it's going to follow the IMOQ and G.U. 'multiple games' pattern, it'd be better to do the IMOQ remaster first, in my opinion.

What do you mean rebalancing? IMOQ is far superior to GU as far as balance goes.
MC isn't a god like Haseo, he's actually painfully average as his class says he should be, you need to care for your gear and elementals to compete, and you depend on your party members and bank on actually using items.
I wish GU balancing was half as good as IMOQ :( I hope they don't touch the balance or difficulty at all.

I also would REALLY like to see IMOQ redone and I think it would be foolish for them not to at this point considering the following: this remake sold fairly well, revitalized the american fanbase (we had been largely ignored for a good few years there), probably cost very little to update and bring to market (gotta love steam), this remake managed to get some pretty big articles to boot (it was floating in and out of my news feed for a good week or two after release).

If this release was a test of the western worlds appetite for future dothack releases, as I suspect it was, I think we solidly passed the taste test, so to speak.

The best way to ensure more dothack content is to be loud about our desire for more. If you REALLY want to see more follow the twitter account, email their website, chat on the forums, etc. anything that shows interest is still very much alive (and likely to be profitable at much smaller numbers nowadays thanks to services like steam being available, as compared to fragile and complex plastic disks that may require additional legal or financial complications to boot).

What I meant by balancing for IMOQ is more along the lines of like item grinding. Such as elemental up items for trading and whatnot. And then there is of course the pitifully small inventory size.

Oh, and the battle AI could also use some tweaking, because Wavemasters standing around doing nothing at all sometimes unless you give them orders isn't so good.

Yeah I agree with most of the combat feeling much more balanced in the first series, although I will admit the newer ones still FEEL better to play imo. I also remember being extremely impressed with the level design and sheer variety of the IMOQ games and the fantastic keyword system really shines so much brighter there and the IMOQ games FEEL much larger and more alive compared to the G.U. series, even though GU actually has a much less restrictive world in most respects (once of my best memories is of warping into a glitchy beach field, fighting past bugged out enemies and into the giant snail, fighting level by level through a legion of data bugs and through the pulsing hallways, all while watching my corruption level and the occasional story dialogue peppered in).
