Question for .Hack veterans.

First I'd like to ask for people to keep it spoiler free if possible.

So I beat the first four games in preparation for the //G.U. series but I'm super confused.

What happens to Kite and BlackRose after the game is done?
I see Kite is in the cover of G.U. but he is... Different. Is it explained anywhere what happens to him or G.U. covers that?

Should I read/watch anything before going into G.U.?

Yeah some characters do make a re-appearance in the game, one with a different name and one who is obvious but as for kite and black rose, you will get an email ingame explaining a little but what happened to them isnt really explained in the first vol. I mean you might find out in 2, 3, or 4 but You might have to read inbetween but personally i don't think that is kite.

For the Kite question, if I am remembering correctly, Vol. 2 reveals who "Kite" really is.

BlackRose stopped playing. She only played to find out what happened to Kazu and save him.

Other than that, there is the Terminal Disk, which is included with Last Recode. It covers what happeded between the first four and G.U. but only a couple of the files are unlocked at the beginning and can be unlocked further by playing through the Volumes.

Only 4 of the OCs frome the first four games are still playing the first 3 in the first GU and the last one showes up in the 3rd GU.
Do not know about the 4th game it is new to me.
All you have to find out by yourself or else SPOILER
(But the news talks about 2 of the side OCs in the 2ed or 3rd game but they do not play.)

Later in the game they'll explain why "Kite" is like that (but if you really want to know just PM me so not everyone who played the game gets spoiled), and Blackrose like everyone said stopped playing the game cause she accomplished what she set out to do and it was to save her brother Kazu

Blackrose like everyone said stopped playing the game cause she accomplished what she set out to do and it was to save her brother Kazu

Technically in the email she said the reason she stopped playing is because she's refusing to let Kazu play again, and as such wants to set a good example by not playing as well. I'm just gonna assume that Kite stopped playing as well .

i actually always thought that with his appearance and coloring kuhn might be kite's new character. and i also theorize. havn't played part 4 yet for gu. that all of the epitaph users are actually people who were directly involved with the events of R1. either during sign, the games, or legend of the twilight

It is hard to say what happened to them after the end of the 4th. Kite stayed to help out CC Corp. to get rid of the leftover data bugs but quit after the game was remade. Blackrose quit after she got her brother back but will help Kite if he calls her.
All the books, games, and anime say is that they talked in real life but did not go into what happened to them. After that all I can say is they are not in the 'The World' R:2.
Maybe the 4th GU game will tell us or not.

Only Haseo (Sora), Kuhn (Sieg), Yata (Wiseman), and Endrance (Elk) had any involvement with R1 and the crisises. Atoli didn't started playing The World until she met Sakaki, at which point it was R2. Sakubo would had been 4 during the Morganna Crisis. They would had been 9 and could had been playing R1 when it ended but it is more likely that they started with R2. Pi is the half-sister to Jun from the Terminal Disk. She would had been 17 at the time of the Morgana Crisis. She could had played R1 but there is nothing to suggest she had any involvement. Ovan is old enough to had played R1 but like Pi there is nothing to suggest he had any involvement with the any of the crisises.

The Terminal Disks that come with G.U. Last Recode will explain everything. It's freaking awesome, and you cannot watch them until you have progressed enough in the storyline so it has an anti-spoiler built in system xP

if you watch the terminal disks you get an idea of what happens, as for it being Kite? yes and no, its more or less His character but controlled(not telling by who or what. Orca and Balmong,same brand of chex mix).

as for blackrose Mia and the lot that werent killed(much like Alkaid and them) they werent killed just forcefully tossed into a coma)

Hmm the kite in game and orca and balmung aren't the real ones .Aura made zombie copies of them from her memories but their data is a bit damaged
