What exactly is the Terminal Disc on the start screen?

Altimit OS is the in that universe version of Windows OS

I understand that it's an OS in the game but I want to know what's the point of the Altimit OS on the start screen beside the Vol. 4. Does it explain what happened in first series or what? I just don't want to go in a check it out in case it has spoilers or anything.

Playing through the games will unlock videos that give you a bit more insight into the background of The World. beyond that, the purpose of the Altimit OS is also to act as the settings menu.

You mean the terminal disc? That has information what happened in previous games. I suggest checking out the first 4 videos at least. You unlock more as you play.

It's the terminal disc which originally came with the special edition of the Rebirth. The first 4 videos are unlocked right away, and are a synopsis of the first 4 games. The rest will unlock as you play through the games and give lore about project G.U.

Actually, just to give you a very simple answer, in the universe of .Hack// , Altmit OS is the default and only authorized OS to be used on the computers.

In case you want to understand the reasons behind it, you can try to search for the Pluto's Kiss event, and how Altmit OS was the only OS to survive it, and after some time the WNC (World Network Commission) passes laws forcing all computers to run ALTIMIT OS.

Altimit OS is the only OS able to withstand Pluto's Kiss, in .HACK lore. AS such, every single computer in the .HACK universe runs Altimit OS. The reason it's on the title screen and in game, is because The World is a PC game, so the idea is when you start the game, you're booting your computer.

Thanks for your help but that wasn't really what I was asking. I know it's my fault because I made a mistake in calling the icon on the title screen Altimit OS when it's actually called Terminal Disc. Still though thanks for the lore. I'm loving this game for how indepth it's lore is.
