Problems with pogo jumping in the first Ducktales game

I can't pogo jump in the first Ducktales game. Normal jumping and using the cane work. Pogo jumping used to work last year when I played it, and for some reason it still works in the second game. I've tried simpler options like playing the game with a game pad and later without it. Afterwards I tried the same on a different computer. None of these suggestions worked. Does anyone have similar issues while playing the first Ducktale game?

In the first one, you have to press D-pad down + cane button in the air to start the pogo. Then after you land it the first time, you can just hold the cane button to keep pogoing.
