Could not connect to Steam client

I am running Windows as regular user too and can't start PCMark10. After entering the requested admin password, I get the following message:

Could not connect to Steam client

I then tried to find the key in order to download and run the standalone version but cannot find it. Where would I get the key?

BTW: 3DMark runs flawlessly.

The only workaround I could find is rather ugly:
When starting Steam as admin, PCMark10 runs without problems.

I am having this same issue. I'll try to run the Steam client itself as admin.

You need to start Steam as admin in this situation.

To access standalone version, start Steam version once, go to Options, view your key and then run one result to upload it to 3dmark.com account. Then you can login to your 3dmark.com account with steam sign-in and in settings next to your key there is the download link for the latest standalone version if you want to use that.
