PCMark 10

PCMark 10

Just bought PCMark 10 - can't even finish one run
I just bought and instaleld the steam version of PCMark 10. Whenever I try to run a benchmark it just aborts after a while with a few messages in red:
The worklload has failed
The workload closed unexpectedly.
The workload has failed to run and produce a result.

I'm on Windows 10 1903 with all the latest patches installed. My PC is pretty old but still going (relatively) strong:
CPU: Intel Core i7 X990
MB: Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD9
12 GB RAM
GeForce GTX 970 x 2 (SLI)

There are no other messages that can indicate exactly where the problem lies. How do I get this to work, and if not how do I get a refund for this non-working software?

I figured it out after som more trial and error, it was RivaTuner that caused PCMark to fail. After stopping RIvaTuner PCMark runs and finish as expected.

But, I would prefer to have RivaTuner running as it's part of "MSI Afterburner" and necessary in order to overclock my graphics cards. So with RivaTuner not running they will run at factory speed, so I am unable to benchmark with PCMark 10 and have my graphics cards overclocked at the same time.

Is this a known issue? RivaTuner is pretty common among "enthusiasts" and I would think those are the ones that frequently run benchmarks.

So, any way of getting PCMark to run at the same times as RivaTuner?

Sorry, RivaTuner interferes at such a low level that if it causes a crash, there is not much you can do. Sometimes updating the utility to latest version can allow it to run. Both Afterburner and PrecisionX are very sensitive to driver version vs. utility version as they do very low level and sometimes driver updates change things that cause issues.

And to clarify, the failure here is due to workload crashing because the underlying video driver crashes due to whatever RivaTuner is doing. In other words, this is not an issue with the benchmark code.

OK, I hear what you're saying. But how come RivaTuner works just fine with all my 100+ games?

If RivaTuner caused a common problem you would think that at least *one* of them would crash the same way PCMark does right?

So in my opinion PCMark has a problem since it will not work together with an "overclocking tool", commonly used and also commonly used when benchmarking.

Very few games use Windows Media Foundation for example. Or OpenCL. Both are used in PCMark 10... and yes, instability of video drivers with OpenCL acceleration has been our bane for a long time...

I have the same problem but get the error “workload executable is missing”. Thing is the download from steam is only around 600mb but if I were to download pcmark 10 myself online it’s suppose to be a 3gb file.

I cannot run pcmark 10 from steam.

I can run it if I manually installed it from the guru3d link or the benchmark.ul site instead.

Please help!

This is a new issue today and our fault - will fix as soon as possible.

Hi just to let you and others know that i found a workaround:

1) Just install the PCMark 10 from benchmarks.ul or 3dguru link,
2) then install the one from steam.
3) Launch the steam's pcmark 10, run it and it should activate the pcmark 10 you installed from benchmarks.ul/3dguru.
4) Close the application
5) Run the application from benchmarks.ul/3dguru now, you should be able to run the whole application like normal and registered with key.
