I know some people might think the game is too grindy. For sure, doing randomized missions, there was that risk (I won't do that in future RPGs).

However, if you use this system I think you should be able to enjoy the game without much grinding (assuming you don't like it - some people like grinding!).
- once the catacombs are open, always do the catacomb for around your current party level. Each catacomb level should give you enough XP to level up once (more or less)
- each area has specific bonuses:
1) Merchant - lots of money. The one with more money. So you can rob this area to get cash quick
2) Nobles - money but also gems. Gems can of course be sold, but you can place them in the armors socket to become powerful faster
3) Mercenaries - the toughest battles but also the ones that give more XP
- the fights that give most XP are the "boss fights". Since the houses are all randomized, you could have bad luck and not stumble in a boss fight immediately. In this case you can just use "auto-battle" (when available) to skip the random encounters and try another house.
- the house/targets have a level. the amount of XP you get is based on the house level. So if you explored the area a few levels ago, you could still have targets with lower levels. You can remove them using the X and explore again to get higher level targets, which will give you more XP.

The tips above are for those who really want to skip the grinding aspect as much as possible. Also, while doing the plot missions, the level displayed it's only a "recommended level". If you play in Easy/Normal difficulty you could manage to complete successfully a mission "recommended level 10" even with a party level 6-7.

I didn't do the "plot mission level 10 recommended" as I wasn't at level 10, now I'm waiting for the plot mission to reappear again. Did I do it in fact? I got one plot scene with Lysander talking to the hooded guy.

Well that is just a recommendation, but depending on difficulty level you can definitely do it before level 10. If you got the plot scene then very likely you did it :)

I'm at "day 33 Solaria 677.. plot mission recommended level 10" . Oh as I click help it shows current amount of gold to attain to advance main plot! I should remember we seek to gather gold (to free mom?)
