Report a translation problem
Sorry they should have stuck with fixing the original translation and spent the other money on bug fixing.
Copyright doesn't have to be renewed.
There isn´t anything refined the game was already translated by fans and refined by others.
So they just sell it for 20$ that is GREED extreme. for no work?
And people dare to defend it? 5$ fine. that is fine. but 20$
Abandonware is abandonware. so unless somebody has legally picked up the rights!
And yes Copyright has to be renewed. so you can´t just pick up somthing sell it and call it your own. That is not even piracy but THEFT .
No, copyright does not have to be renewed. Of course you can't pick something up and sell it and call it your own- the copyright (that didn't have to be renewed,) still exists and protects it.
There is so much wrong with this.... i dont even know where to start.
First of all the DOS version was liscensed from the japanese publisher for a western release in the 90s.
That fell through when the western company gone bankrupt.
The nearly finished english translated version was then later put onto the net. (which was illegal)
The primary copyright was always with the japanese company who made the game in the first place.
In 2004 that japanese company remade the game in a new engine for the japanese 15th anniversary of the PM series.
That was THIS game you see here, the Refine version. New graphics, voice acting and music.
That game was now translated anew in english for its Steam release. And it does not use any of the old english translation from the DOS version.
So why in the ♥♥♥♥ should they not get money for this game? It has nothing to do with the old version you know from 92. Please inform yourself in the future before writing such a huge wall of pure uninformed crap.
I venture to point out that the enthusiasm and many longtime fans wouldn't even be here without exposure to the bootleg version all those years ago. It's probably why an increasing number of developers and publishers like CD Project Red and Larian actually see wider distribution as a market benefit to awareness and enthusiasm, no matter how it takes place - understanding that different consumers have different price points, most of which can be met and turned into income eventually through both full price purchases or sales and promotions.
Not entirely true but any copyright after 1992 has such an insane copyright that companies dont really have to worry about it . either way i wouldnt exactly consider it smart to debate the legality of Abandonware on a site that sells games .....just sayin
Anybody attempting to curtail such discussion would prove themselves to be:
1. A censoring prick with presumed delusions of self-importance
2. An idiot
I can understand the whole "no piracee talkee" in Steam ToS (preventative from having leaks to Yo-ho-ho versions right here on their forums), but I see absolutely no legitimate reason why they should have any issues with a discussion regarding applicability of actual laws to game software. Or the idiocy of IP laws in general.
Ehhhh, on this specific game forum you may be right. The publishers/developers all manage their own forums here on Steam without influence from Valve at all.
I dont even know if this publisher has mods here to enforce anything.
Most small releases dont.
But on the main steam forums talk about abandonware will get you permabanned. No question.
Seen it multiple times. Even alluding to anything that has to do with possible game piracy will get you banned from the forums.
Even in pretty harmless discussions not even endorsing anything of that kind.
So its ok to talk in most of the games subforums about topics like that ( if the developer has not forbidden it and enforces those rules).
On the main forums i would not risk it. Just my experience over the last few years.
Though I did run here into one or two "mods" who, if they were assigned to one of the many fora I have managed over the years, would've been immediately dismissed for blatant power-tripping.
Oh yes, there are a few. Some really decent ones too. Like in most forums with a lot of mods.
