For those endings you have to do a terrible parenting job and not really play the game that well. Just because you CAN do something, does not mean you should.
Im really happy that the PM games finally come out in english. Played the ♥♥♥♥ out of them in japanese over the last 10 years or so.
Later games in the series have way less of that kind of content, almost certainly because GAINAX realized that women were a huge part of their market for Princess Maker (it's been estimated that around 65 to 70 per cent of all Japanese players are female) and most weren't interested in making their daughter a BDSM queen or a concubine.
Eh, you can still marry your daughter in 4 and have her end up as a sleazy barmaid.
It changed in 5 but there you could play a mother for the first time and the game was much more focused on interaction with your daughters friends and so on. Also it was the only game that is set in our world in modern times so no wonder they skipped some endings.
They shouldn't remove them. Removing content from video games because it makes people uncomfortable is terrible and hurts the artistic integrity of these works.
While I mostly agree with you, content is not always put into games for "artistic reasons". For example there could be a football game that the publisher decided needed to be pitched at a different audience so added topless cheerleaders. Removing those cheerleaders would actually bring back, not hurt the artistic integrity of the work.
The people looking for something to complain about in this relatively innocent title will probably find things to cherry-pick and complain about easily enough but the goal of Princess Maker 2 is not even remotely to find erotic content, especially with the Refine version's changes to the original dithered art.
Hell, I originally downloaded it for the so-called "adult" content back in the late '90s. Instead I found a game lacking the nudity 13-year-old-me sought but I enjoyed it so much that I played it dozens of times (and purchased physically twice). Through the years I've bought and played all the subsequent games in the series despite the prices and language barrier because Princess Maker is a good, fun time.
I guess the tl;dr here is that PM2 is not an eroge and the people looking to cause a ruckus over it will have some cherry-picked things to get upset over but ultimately the game is harmless from top to bottom.
As if that ever stopped the "morally outraged" faction.
The people who are looking to get outraged knowing how bad their usual "info" is will probably confuse PM2 for Slave Maker 2 then declare holy jihad upon the game before realising their mistake then claiming the game is sexist or something.
I remember getting the marry your father ending when I played it back in the day, I wasn't a hardcore player by any means so it can't be that difficult.
But I digress, I expected that people would defend creepy ♥♥♥♥ like this and I was pretty much on point. Hilarious.
What's hilarious is you're wasting your time getting huffy about optional and barely offensive content in a remake of a niche DOS game.
And the ending where you marry your daughter is quite difficult to get, I assure you. If you got it on a random playthrough you are in a very small minority. You seem to be on some sort of high horse about this whole thing, when all you're really doing is whining about something that doesn't matter one way or the other.
I'm just happy PM2 is getting an official English release, and hope subsequent entries get the same treatment.
EDIT:
Upon looking at the ripped ending CGs of Refine from Spriters' Resource (http://www.spriters-resource.com/pc_computer/pm2refine/sheet/71134/), there was some side nudity in the ending CGs and a case of underaged (from the back) nudity in the vaction CGs (http://www.spriters-resource.com/pc_computer/pm2refine/sheet/22691/) in the 2004 release. My bad.
That ♥♥♥♥ is creepy. I'm hoping they didn't / won't include it in this release because I won't buy it if it has that content in this day and age.
There WAS underaged (though obviously digital) nudity in the original DOS release, as well as an easily accessible debug item that would disrobe your daughter at any age. To my knowledge, however, this was removed from the 2004 Refine edition so it should no longer be present in this rerelease.
I'm not going to lie to you and say that the premise isn't a little creepy, especially in that first DOS release (which was creepy to the point of child nudity), but it's not a major feature of the game and certainly is toned down / removed in later installments. You just seem to fishing for reactions from a niche fanbase, to be honest. Well, I hope you catch some big ones, mate.
Thanks for the clarification. :) I'll confirm it before purchasing.
Well it all hinges on interpretation of the law in fact.
