Confused by Ginoza

SPOILERS FROM THE GAME!

I don't know if it'll be revealed in the game later on, but as for now I'm just super frustrated. Does anyone know why Ginoza got especially distressed by the child abuse case, and what did Kogami mean by saying, that Gino should understand the commoness of domestic abuse "Very well"? I'm just so confused, all the little details about Gino's behaviour during the case were so, I don't know, out of character? Please, enlighten me.

There's a lot we don't know about Ginoza's past, particularly where his mother is concerned.

But we do know that his dad was declared a latent criminal when Ginoza was 9 (due to his father's work as an Inspector) and that in the official information Ginoza's emergency contact is his grandmother, rather than his mother, but if that's due to his mother being deceased or some other reason I don't think it's ever been revealed.
But Ginoza has been an Inspector for quite some time so I'm sure he's seen other cases where abuse occured, and it probably does hit home a bit given that there's a bit of tragedy in his own childhood with his father becoming a latent criminal and Ginoza being bullied as a result of that.

(Spoilers, yes) Thanks for your point if view, I agree. In the anime he says that his father is his only living relative, so clearly everyone has died. To me, as I've now thought about it more (why to bother doing your homework when you can struggle with the past of an anime character), it would make sense if his mother was at least somekindly abusive when he was younger. It would also make the "betrayal" of his father even more hurtful. I don't know, it still confuses me so much, but thank you so much for answering.

It probably would make more sense if we knew more about Ginoza. Who knows maybe more will be revealed about him in the upcoming movies.
