Is it the same story as the anime

As far as I know this is a different story happening during the first season.

Which is great. I hope there will be more cases with maniacs and stuff, since I really enjoyed the first half of the season, while the second and especially the ending was kinda wacky and simple.

I prefer this way. A new story is more interesting, I remember the anime and I have no interest on repeating that story

New story arc set somewhere in the first 6 episodes of Season 1 (I'd say just before the first two-parter). Other than a cameo or two, it's pretty much standalone from the series.

Aww, dang. I was sort of hoping the game would center on Makishima as the main antagonist, because he's one of my favorite villains in any anime.
